It is exactly 5280 feet above sea level which earned it the nickname "Mile High City". Denver was established in 1858 as a mining town and was incorporated in 1861 as thousands of people came for a gold rush. It is an outdoor city allowing to the fact it has a semi-arid continental climate. The region boasts art, culture, food, music, and sports.
Jimmy Buffett wrote about his time there in the song "A Mile High In Denver" in 1970.

Boulder is nestled in a valley where the mountains meet the plains. Gold was found in the 1850s and soon Boulder was incorporated and the cornerstone laid for the University of Colorado campus. It is known for its natural beauty and boasts a series of bicycle, walking, and hiking trails that explore the red sandstone Flatirons. The city has a high per capita number of breweries and considers itself as being in the "Napa Valley of Beer".
Emmylou Harris sang "Boulder to Birmingham" in 1975 to help her work her way through grief after losing her mentor and friend.

Since 1990, Telluride has been host to a variety of festivals including musical, culinary, athletic, etc. Because of its historical significance, it was also designated a National Historic Landmark District.

Black Hawk was settled by miners in the 1850s near the gold lode that was part of the then Kansas Territory. The town was incorporated in 1864 and connected to the capital via railway. After decades of economic problems, Black Hawk opened casinos after a ballot measure was passed. Soon it grew to one of the largest casino destinations in the state. They claim people can still strike it rich there...just not in the mines!

There are four ski mountains, including one that literally goes directly into the town. And every September, the city hosts an Oscar-qualifying short film festival that draws in people from around the globe. John Denver sang "Starwood in Aspen" in 1971 when he sang about his longing to go back to the "Rocky Mountain paradise" of Aspen.
