10. Pikes Peak is named after Zebulon Pike. Who was Zebulon Pike?

Answer: US General

Brigadier General Zebulon Pike was a captain in the US Army when he led the Pike Expedition in 1806-07. President Thomas Jefferson commissioned the expedition to explore the southern regions of the newly acquired Louisiana territory, in particular, to find the origins of the Red River.

The party discovered and documented what later became known as Pikes Peak. Captain Pike became a brigadier general in the War of 1812.
