Captain James Cook sighted Norfolk Island in 1774 while on his second trip to the South Pacific, aboard HMS Resolution.

These people were resettled from the Pitcairn Islands, a very remote group of islands in the eastern Pacific which the mutineers from a famous ship, the HMS Bounty, settled on. On 3rd May 1856 they left the island and arrived on June 8th on Norfolk Island with 194 people.

Kingston is a very small settlement. Burnt Pine is Norfolk Island's largest settlement. Cascade is sometimes called another settlement because some infrastructure exists at this site and it is not far from the Burnt Pine limits. Burnt Pine's notable places are Rawson Hall, the Netball/Basketball courts, and the Lions Park. Taylors Road runs right through the middle of Burnt Pine and the settlement is located right on the road.

The road leads to Norfolk Island Airport.
