1. Grand Canyon National Park

Grand Canyon National Park is on many of the 'bucket lists' for vacationers. This gorgeous site offers a number of options exist such as plane or helicopter rides, floating on the Colorado River, mule trails, a glass platform over the canyon, hotels and resorts, or simply driving the rim.

The Smoky Mountains National Park lies on the border between Tennessee and North Carolina. It is the most visited national park in the United States with 11.3 million visitors in 2016.
3. Acadia National Park

Answer: Maine

Acadia National Park is located in Maine, on Mount Desert Island, and smaller islands, off the Atlantic coast. Three million people visited the park in 2016. Acadia is the oldest designated national park area east of the Mississippi River.
4. Big Bend National Park

Answer: Texas

Big Bend National Park borders Mexico and is the largest protected area of Chihuahuan Desert topography and ecology. It contains more than 1,200 species of plants, 450 species of birds, 56 species of reptiles, and 75 species of mammals.

The hot spring water has been believed for centuries to possess medicinal properties among several Native American tribes. Following federal protection in 1832, it developed into a spa town and through time has been home to baseball spring training, illegal gambling, speakeasies and gangsters such as Al Capone, horse racing, the Army and Navy Hospital, and President Bill Clinton.

The Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is located in south central Colorado. The dunes were formed from sand and soil deposits from prehistoric glaciers, lakes, and wind erosion. The topography changes constantly with winds moving the sand into dunes that reportedly can raise over 700 feet.

It is sometimes confused with Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore which is much smaller and not continuous.
8. Carlsbad Caverns National Park

Carlsbad Cavern includes a large cave chamber called "The Big Room", a natural limestone chamber almost 4,000 feet long, 625 feet wide, and 255 feet high. Historically, Carlsbad Caverns served as the coastline for an inland sea. The surrounding area is a nature preserve.
9. Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park in Montana is on the Canadian border. The park covers a million acres, two mountain ranges, 130 lakes, 1,000 different species of plants, and many species of animals. This pristine ecosystem has been referred to as the "Crown of the Continent Ecosystem".

Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the United States with a depth of about 2000 feet and is the residue of an extinct volcano. Pictures do not fully capture the beauty and majesty of Crater Lake, looking down on it from a cliff to its naturally clear blue waters. There are nature trails, and for a few weeks of the year, boat rides on the lake from the north end.
