Answer: Hume Highway

The Hume Highway runs inland connecting Sydney and Melbourne. It is a two-lane dual carriageway and is the major traffic route between the two major cities. A coastal alternative to the Hume Highway is the Princes Highway which borders the coast, however it is roughly 200kms longer.
2. So you arrive in Melbourne and after staying a while would like to depart and pay a visit to the Twelve Apostles, a famous rock formation in the sea. On the way you'll be driving along a very scenic route that runs from the small town of Torquay to the coastal town of Warrnambool. Which famous road is this?

Answer: Great Ocean Road

The Great Ocean Road starts at Torquay, where it passes through the towns of Anglesea, Lorne and the southernmost mainland town in Apollo Bay. It then heads inland with a turn-off to Cape Otway (southernmost point on the mainland). It then arrives at the towns of Princetown and Port Campbell where the famous Twelve Apostles are located.

The Great Ocean Road eventually joins up with the Princes Highway to Adelaide.

The Eyre Highway runs east-west from Port Augusta in South Australia to Norseman in Western Australia. Whilst it is Australia's longest highway, there is ample fuel for travelers at roadhouses such as the Nullabor Roadhouse, as well as towns such as Ceduna and Eucla.

The Eyre Highway also encompasses Australia's longest straight road (146kms long). Certain parts of the road are so straight that they have been widened to form an emergency airstrip for the Royal Flying Doctor service! These areas are marked with zig-zag lines.

Answer: Canning Stock Route

The Canning Stock Route is a 2013km journey that travels from Wiluna in the south to Halls Creek in the north. It once was a route for transferring livestock but is now a popular tourist track. The track comprises 54 roadside wells, which range from derelict pumps to fully functioning water supplies.

There are only two places to refuel on the entire track, and it comprises of over 900 sand dunes in a spinifex-filled desert.

The Savannah Way runs across the Gulf Savannah from Broome in the west to Cairns in the east. A small section of this 3500km route near Hells Gate Roadhouse is unpaved, and is popular with road trains.

It runs parallel to the Ghan railway line and crosses Aboriginal land and the Woomera prohibited area that was once a rocket testing area. Tourists are allowed to enter this Aboriginal area but must keep to within 50m either side of the Stuart Highway.

The Pacific Highway runs along the coast form Brisbane to Sydney and is a 975-kilometre long road that mainly comprises of one lane in each direction. It is responsible for many deaths on the road each year due to the high number of blind spots and sharp curves.

Wauchope is a small town about 4 hours away from Sydney and is home to the historic Timbertown amusement park.

Answer: Thunderbolts Way

Thunderbolts Way (named after Australian bushranger Captain Thunderbolt) is a famous road between Uralla and Gloucester. It is a long winding scenic route in a dense forest and stretches down to the scenic Barrington Tops in Gloucester. From Gloucester it is an easy four-hour drive back to Sydney.
10. From Gloucester you drive down to Newcastle before entering a major and highly populated dual-carriageway to Sydney. What road is this?

Answer: F3

The F3 starts at Newcastle and ends at Wahroonga on the north shore of Sydney. It is the only toll-free major motorway branching away from Sydney.
