4. To which of the following countries will I need to travel to if I wish to see the prehistoric hill figure known as the Uffington White Horse?

Answer: England

I will need to book passage to the lovely country of England if I wish to see this beautiful chalk hill figure. Found in the county of Oxfordshire in southern England, this beautiful depiction of a galloping white horse can be seen for many miles, but is possible best viewed from the air. No exact date is known for its construction but most historians date it to the later Iron Age.

When and if you tire of looking at this beautiful piece of ancient art, you can schedule a tour of the ruins of Uffington Castle which is located on a knoll above the White Horse and dates to around the same time.
5. To which continent am I going if I have decided to visit the Ellsworth Mountains, Queen Maud Land, and Deception Island?

Answer: Antarctica

I am aware a visit to Antarctica may not be on everyone's bucket list. But there are a few things to see, albeit with great difficulty and at a high cost. Ellsworth Mountains are the tallest mountain range on the continent. They were not discovered until 1935 and have an average temperature of -20F (-30C). Queen Maud Land is a region of Antarctica claimed by the country of Norway.

The main reason to visit would be to see the sea birds who breed in the area. Deception Island is one of the northern most locations in Antarctica and lies due south of the tip of South America. You can visit a large black-sand beach, and some large crater lakes all of which are the results of an active volcano on the island.
6. If I told you I was going to take a river cruise and visit Vienna, Budapest, and Bratislava, which river would I be gliding down?

Answer: Danube

The Danube river rises in the Black Forest of Germany and flows southward into the Black Sea. Along the way it passes through all of these capital cities and is one of the most important rivers in Europe as an international waterway. A wonderful way to take it easy, rest and relax would be to take a river cruise down this magnificent river.

A trip down this river would allow you to see the best of central Europe, including its largest cities, country regions, and small hamlets. The river passes through, or borders, ten different European countries.
7. To which Asian country am I traveling if I am going to visit the Forbidden City?

Answer: China

To visit the Forbidden City I must travel to Beijing, China. The Forbidden City is the term for the Imperial Palace of China for over 500 years. It was the home of Chine emperors as well as the seat of government. This UNESCO World Heritage Site contains almost 1,000 buildings and is now the location of the Palace Museum.

This palatial estate was once almost impossible to gain access to. It was not until the Boxer Rebellion in 1900 that the Empress Dowager Cixi fled the palace and it became open to the rest of the world.
8. If I decided that I wanted to go visit Bondi Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, to which country would I be traveling?

Answer: Australia

Visiting Bondi Beach would entail a visit to the city of Sydney, Australia. This beautiful beach gets its name from an Aboriginal word that means "water breaking over rocks". This beautiful beach is only about 1km long (0.62 mi). and provides access to some wonderful surfing waves. Shark nets are maintained during summer months and it is not unusual to see whale, dolphins and even penguins at the beach.

After a day at the beach, you can have dinner at one of the wonderful eateries in the area. You might get lucky and see a film, or television show being filmed in the area.
9. Which of the following methods will I be most likely to use if I want to make the trek up a mountain to see the ancient Incan city of Machu Picchu in Peru?

Answer: Riding a donkey

To see Machu Picchu, I would have to ascend one of the high mountains of the Cusco region of Peru. A sturdy burro or donkey is the usual method of gaining access to this breathtaking monument of the Incan civilization. There is also the option of riding a train which has been built especially to take tourists to the site. Built around 1450, it was only used for about a century, at which time the Spanish Conquest had started.

This magical site was not known to the outside world until 1911 when an American professor announced its location to the world.

Although it is only 50 miles (80km) from the capital city of Cusco, the Spanish never found it and the surrounding jungle grew over it. There is no road for passenger cars or tour buses, llamas are not built to be ridden by humans, and the dangerous winds in the area preclude using a hot air balloon.
10. To which Canadian Province will I be going if I tell you I am trotting off to see the Calgary Stampede?

Answer: Alberta

The rowdy Calgary Stampede is a wonderful rodeo exhibition that is held every July in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The lively ten day event includes bull riding, stage shows, chuck-wagon racing, concerts, and parades. Over one millions visitors invade this pristine area to attend this celebration of agriculture, earlier times, and a lifestyle that has all but disappeared.

This is truly a wonderful way to take it easy.
