The building functioned as a hospital until the 1940s. Now it is used for a variety of functions and has a museum.

Susan La Flesche Picotte was born in 1865 in the Omaha tribe, with her father, Joseph LaFlesche being the chief of the tribe. She studied at the Women's Medical College of Pennsylvania, before returning to the reservation to assist medically there. She tried to discourage drinking alcohol on the reservation, as part of the temperance movement of the 19th century, which rallied against alcohol use.

Gerald Ford was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1913. However, his birth name was Leslie Lynch King. Gerald Ford's biological father was physically and verbally abusive to his mother, and despite it being severely against social norms at the time, Gerald Ford's mother, Dorothy Ayer Gardner, left Leslie Lynch King Sr in around 1913.

In 1917, Dorothy Ayer Gardner King married Gerald Rudolff Ford. Gerald, although never formally adopted by him, believed he was the biological son of Gerald Rudolff Ford until he was around 15.

Gerald Ford was President from 1974 - 1977. During his time in office he gave former U.S President, Richard Nixon, a pardon for any crimes he committed against the United States. This decision to pardon Nixon was a huge controversy during Ford's presidency.

Gerald Ford died in 2006 of coronary artery disease (among other ailments) in his home in the city of Rancho Mirage, Riverside County, California.

Fort Robinson was a major base for the U.S army during the Sioux Wars of 1876 - 1890. In 1876, the Battle of Warbonnet Creek took place near Fort Robinson, where the Native American chief Crazy Horse was captured and killed. A plaque commemorates his death at the base.

The U.S military abandoned Fort Robinson in 1947, and it now serves as a historic building and major attraction of the Fort Robinson State Park.
