Umbria is a landlocked region in central Italy. It is called "the Green Heart of Italy". Its capital, Perugia, is a charming medieval city situated on the hilltop.
2. Which Umbrian city was devastated by a tragic earthquake in 1997 that destroyed many monuments of art?

Answer: Assisi

The earthquake occurred in September 1997. 13 people died and thousands were left homeless. The famous Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi with its priceless fresco paintings by Giotto and Cimabue was seriously damaged. The Basilica was renovated and reopened in 2002, five years after the earthquake.
3. Each year Perugia plays host to a famous international music festival. What kind of music is it dedicated to?

Umbria Jazz Festival is held in Perugia every year in the month of July. It is one of the most important events of this kind in the world. The first edition of the festival took place in 1973.
