Question 1 of 10
1. "It's pretty hot and dry here, not surprising really in this desert country. I arrived in Amman yesterday and headed down today. Picture yourself riding on horseback like Indy and his father following the curves of the Siq (a steep-sided gorge), which suddenly opens out in front of a cliff with the Treasury, a temple-like building carved into the red sandstone." Where's your friend?

Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. "The jungle scenery is incredible here with temple ruins entwined with the roots of large trees. At Ta Prohm I can picture Lara Croft as she follows the mysterious girl and the butterflies through the ruins. Well worth parting with my riel, even at tourist rates, for a trip to this spot." Where on earth is he now? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. "Here I am in a cable car coming down Sugarloaf Mountain looking for evidence of the fight between Bond and Jaws. I saw nothing obvious however the views were great. I could even see the statue of Christ the Redeemer." Where has he got to now? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. "Where am I? Well, I've always enjoyed reading Jules Verne as a kid so I am at Snæfellsjökull to start my 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth'. The volcano itself lies on one of the western peninsulas of the island and they did some filming for the 2008 film nearby at Kaldidalur. I even managed a dip in the Blue Lagoon yesterday afternoon." Where is he? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. "... and today I've been competing with the crowds visiting Schloss Neuschwanstein, humming the tune to 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' whilst fruitlessly looking out for the Baron's Child Catcher or, at the very least, some Black Forest gâteau." In which country can you find this castle (and the cake)? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. "I thought I'd stop over in this densely-populated former British colony to visit the wreck of the 'Queen Elizabeth'. You may remember that it was a secret MI6 HQ in 'The Man With the Golden Gun.' Alas! It is no more. I gather that most of it has been salvaged with some of it buried during land reclamation near the airport at Chek Lap Kok. I guess I can go and check out some martial art locations instead." Where did the Queen Elizabeth get wrecked? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. "The four Pevensie children only took seconds to return to Narnia from London. It took me a full day's flying and several hours in the car to get here to Cathedral Cove on the Coromandel. It is part of Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve and is certainly scenic. Not a cloud to be seen despite the local name for the country - Aotearoa." Where is he? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. "Here I am at Fort Ricasoli, built by the Order of the Knights of St John, where Russell Crowe did much of his 'Gladiator' fighting and for that matter where the streets of Brad Pitt's 'Troy' were laid out. I can look across the Grand Harbour and see Fort St Elmo, the prison in 'Midnight Express'. Fort St Elmo was captured during the Great Siege in 1565 although ultimately the Knights Hospitaller prevailed." Which battle-scarred city is this? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. "I am enjoying a pint at the Guinness storehouse as I plan my trip to take in Trim Castle, the Blessington Lakes, Bective Abbey and Wicklow Mountains National Park. Why? These were all filming locations for that most-Scottish of movies 'Braveheart'. Which city is he in? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. "... then I grabbed a quick café au lait and croissant on the Rive Gauche before heading across the Seine and ducking in through the glass pyramid entrance of this museum. It wasn't long before I was retracing Robert Langdon's steps when he was summoned to the site of the crime scene." In which museum did this fictional crime take place? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: Petra

The desert country is Jordan with Amman its capital. Your friend is describing the approach to the building known as Al Khazneh (the Treasury) from the east along a natural gorge. The gorge is over a kilometre long with sides ranging between 90 and 180 metres in height. The temple dates from around the First century AD. The site appears towards the end of the 1989 film "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade'.

Answer: Angkor, Cambodia

Ta Prohm is one of the most visited UNESCO-designated sites in Cambodia. Unlike most temple ruins in the area, it has been left relatively untouched with the jungle having reclaimed much of the site. The riel is the currency of Cambodia, and Angelina Jolie played the lead role in the 2001 film "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider".
3. "Here I am in a cable car coming down Sugarloaf Mountain looking for evidence of the fight between Bond and Jaws. I saw nothing obvious however the views were great. I could even see the statue of Christ the Redeemer." Where has he got to now?

Answer: Rio de Janeiro

Sugarloaf Mountain (395 metres high) is to be found in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The mountain is known as a bornhardt, being a dome-shaped steep-sided rock often made of granite. Another example is Uluru (or Ayers Rock), which is mainly sandstone. The Bond movie featuring the cable car fight was the 1979 film "Moonraker".

Answer: Iceland

The journey through the Earth in Jules Verne's 1864 story 'Voyage au centre de la terre', started in Iceland and ended at the volcanic island of Stromboli in Italy. The Blue Lagoon is a popular geothermal spa some 40 km from Iceland's capital Reykjavik, supplied from the outfall of a geothermal power station.
5. "... and today I've been competing with the crowds visiting Schloss Neuschwanstein, humming the tune to 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' whilst fruitlessly looking out for the Baron's Child Catcher or, at the very least, some Black Forest gâteau." In which country can you find this castle (and the cake)?

Answer: Germany

The castle was built by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat in the 19th century and as a homage to the composer Richard Wagner. It has also made an appearance in numerous films including the 1968 film "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" (with the Child Catcher).

The castle sits above the village of Hohenschwangau in south-west Bavaria. The cake's name is said by some to be linked to the sour morello cherries originally grown in Germany's Black Forest region and which were used to make a cherry brandy, an essential ingredient.

Answer: Hong Kong

Now an autonomous territory of China, Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated areas in the world. The ship 'Queen Elizabeth' (which had been renamed 'Seawise University') caught fire in 1972 during renovations and capsized with the weight of water used in the firefighting.

The wreck featured in the 1974 Bond movie but is now part the foundations of Container Terminal Nine near the airport.

Answer: New Zealand

Coromandel Peninsula is within easy reach of Auckland, New Zealand's largest city, and is a popular holiday destination. Aotearoa is commonly translated from Maori as 'land of the long white cloud'. Part of the 2008 film "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" was filmed in New Zealand.

Answer: Valletta

Valletta is the capital of Malta in the Mediterranean and was the base for the Knight Hospitaller for over 250 years. Only three islands in the group are inhabited. Malta is unusual in being awarded the George Cross for the heroism of the population during the Second World War siege. The George cross now forms part of the country's flag.

The films "Gladiator" (2000), "Troy" (2004) and "Midnight Express" (1978) all had scenes filmed here.

Answer: Dublin

All these locations appeared in the 1995 film starring Mel Gibson. They are not in Scotland despite the film's subject. Scotland has lochs not lakes (with one exception) and the drink Guinness is definitely Irish.

Tax breaks saw much of the filming being done around Dublin in Ireland rather than Scotland. Dublin is where the Guinness brewery was founded in 1759. Trim Castle goes back to Norman times and Bective Abbey is of similar age, being founded in the 12th century. All the locations are within easy reach of Dublin.
10. "... then I grabbed a quick café au lait and croissant on the Rive Gauche before heading across the Seine and ducking in through the glass pyramid entrance of this museum. It wasn't long before I was retracing Robert Langdon's steps when he was summoned to the site of the crime scene." In which museum did this fictional crime take place?

Answer: The Louvre

The Louvre started off as a fortress in the 12th century before becoming a royal palace. This phase lasted until the French Revolution in 1789 when the decision to turn it into a museum was made. The glass pyramid, one of several, was added during the 1980s. The film was "The Da Vinci Code" (2006) with the protagonist Robert Langdon played by Tom Hanks.
