Answer: 1966

The BPP was orginally formed to patrol the black community and protect residents from police brutality. They eventually turned into a revolutionary group that called for the arming of black people, the exemption of black people from drafts, compensation for black people, etc.
2. What was the date the BPP and police officers had a shoot-out which left Huey Newton wounded and charged with killing a police officer?

Answer: October 28, 1967

Huey Newton was found guilty one year later of voluntary manslaughter.
3. Bobby Hutton, one of the youngest members of the BPP was killed by police officers. How many times was he shot?

Answer: 12

During a confrontation with police, Bobby Hutton and two other BPP members ran inside of a building for cover, but when tear gas was thrown into the building, they had to surrender. As he exited the building with his hands in the air, he was shot 12 times, and died instantly. He was 17 years old.
4. Who founded the Chicago chapter of the BPP?

He founded the chapter in November of 1968.

Twelve BPP members were indicted for this murder. One of them pleaded guily to second degree murder, and did some time in jail. Another member was convicted of firing the fatal shot, and was sentenced to life in prison. Bobby Seale was among the 12 to get indicted for the murder, but his trial resulted in a hung jury, and the case was dismissed.
9. What was Huey P. Newton's cause of death?

Answer: Gunshot

In August of 1989, he was found shot dead on a street in Oakland, California.
