Answer: German New Guinea

German New Guinea, or in German Kaiser-Wilhelmsland, was occupied by Australia 1914. In 1920 Australia was given a League of Nations mandate to govern. Solomon Islands were also part of The Trust Territory of New Guinea.
2. Japan and Germany, 1914-20.

Answer: Marshall Islands

Marshall Islands, along with Palau, Caroline Islands and Mariana Islands were mandated Japan 1919-1920. Bougainville, as the biggest of the Solomon Islands, was mandated Australia. As was Bismarck Archipelago, which was part of German New Guinea.
3. Germany and New Zealand, 1914-20.

Answer: Western Samoa

Western Samoa was mandated New Zealand 1920.
4. New Zealand and Great Britain, 1901.

Answer: Cook Islands

Made British protectorate 1888. Part of New Zealand 1901. Tokelau was adminstrated by New Zealand 1925, part of this country 1948. Niue was originally part of Cook Islands administration, but was made separate dependency 1922. Norfolk Island is external Australian territory.
5. Australia and Great Britain, 1955.

Answer: Cocos Islands

These islands were placed under Australian authority in 1955. Christmas Island was ceded to Australia 1958.
6. USA, Germany and Great Britain, 1889-99.

Answer: American Samoa

Under joint adminstration of USA, Germany and Great Britain 1889-99. Granted to USA by treaty 1899.
7. USA and Spain, 1898-99.

Answer: Guam

Ceded to USA by Spain 1898 and occupied 1899.
8. France and Great Britain, 1906.

Answer: New Hebrides

Convention signed 1906 by which a condomium, or common rule, was set up between France and Great Britain.
9. Ecuador and Peru, 1941.

Answer: Cordillera del Condor

Boundary with Colombia settled 1916, but that with Peru, in spite of several treaties, was not settled until 1942 when the Cordillera del Condor region was assigned to Peru after a war in 1941.
10. Chile and Peru, 1879-1929.

Answer: Tacna and Arica

In the Pacific war between Chile, Peru and Bolivia 1879-84 Chile occupied Tacna and Arica, which, until 1929, were subject of dispute with Peru. Chile was also given the Peruvian province of Tarapaca in accordance with treaty 1884.
11. Chile and Bolivia, 1884.

Answer: Antofagasta

Both Antofagasta and Iquique were occupied by Chile 1879. Iquique was, however, ceded to Chile by a treaty in 1883, while Antofagasta was ceded by a treaty in 1884. Both cities belong to the Atacama department.

Disputed boundary between Alaska and British Columbia arbitrated in favor of USA 1903.

Great Britain and Argentina fought a short war over these islands in 1982.

The Panama Canal Zone was ceded from USA to Panama 1999.

16. USA and Mexico, 1914.

USA occupied Vera Cruz in 1914.

USA bought the American Virgin Islands from Denmark 1917.

The two countries fought a brief border war 1969, the so called 'Soccer War'. The issue was settled in The World Court in 1992. The disputed border areas include among others some small islands in the Gulf of Fonseca. USA and Honduras dispute the Swan Islands, Nicaragua and USA the Corn Islands and USA and Haiti Navassa Island.
19. Paraguay and Bolivia, 1932-35.

The so called 'Chaco war' 1932-35.
20. Colombia and Nicaragua, 1900-1930.

Answer: San Andres and Providencia Islands

Belong to Colombia, are claimed by Nicaragua.
21. Colombia and Venezuela, 1951-Present.

Answer: Monjes Islands

Monjes Islands belong to Venezuela, but are claimed by Colombia.
22. USA and Honduras, 1972.

Answer: Swan Islands

Swan Islands were disputed from 1921, but Honduras gained them in 1972.
23. Guatemala and Great Britain, 1868-1981.

Answer: British Honduras

British Honduras was made British colony 1862. From 1868 Guatemala claimed two thirds of the territory. The claim was first against Great Britain, but when the colony became independent state Belize 1981 the claims remained against the new state.
24. Argentina and Chile, 1985.

Answer: Beagle Channel

This channel was disputed 1904-1985, but the dispute was settled 1985.
25. Great Britain and Nicaragua, 1905.

Answer: Mosquito Coast

This territory in Nicaragua was a British protectorate 1655-1865 and later an autonomous indian reserve. It became part of Nicaragua in 1905.
