Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What Pharoah is said to have been ruling when the Egyptian Exodus happened?

Answer: Ramses II

Ramses II is said to be the greatest Pharoah in Egyptian history. He's made many great temples, two-thirds of the statues found in Egypt have inscriptions telling about him, and is said to have lived up to 92 years of age. Ramses II was also made into a not-so-well known God. As has been previously speculated Ramses III was not the relevant pharaoh.
2. Who is the son of Osiris, God of the Underworld?

Answer: Horus

Horus can be found on Egyptian inscriptions as a vulture with a human head. Anubis is Osiris' helper and Set was the one said to have killed Osiris. Horus also helped Isis, Osiris' wife, put Osiris back together after Set, Osiris' brother, murdered him and cut him into little pieces.
3. What animals were said to have helped Ra reach the sun?

Answer: Baboons

The baboons can be found lined up on the doorway of the Temple of Abu Simbel. Abu Simbel was built by Ramses II and worships the gods Amen, Osiris, Ra, and Ramses II himself. Amen is King of all Gods, Osiris is God of the Underworld, and Ra is the Sun God.
4. Which God kills a person who has a heart heavier than a feather, according to Egyptian religion/mythology?

Answer: Ammut

Ammut (also sometimes spelled Ammit and also known as Amemit) was a demon is the creature that is told to kill people whose heart is heavier than a feather. This process is part of the test to get into the afterlife when one dies. People with lighter hearts pass this part of the test and go on to the next part. The demon devoured the unworthy.
5. In the process of mummification, how many days does it take for a dead person to dry after the body is bathed in hot tree sap?

Answer: 40

The whole mummification process took 70 days.
6. By tradition, which pharoah does the face of the Great Sphinx represent?

Answer: King Khafre

There is, however, no hard evidence for this view, which is based on the Sphinx's proximity to Khafre's pyramid. Some scholars believe that the Sphinx is much older than the pyramids.
7. What animals did the Sphinxes represent on Ramses II's dock that led to the Nile River?

Answer: Lions Body, Rams Head

The bodies belonged to lions and the heads belonged to rams. The dock was huge, with over a 2 mile long row of Sphinxes. There were two rows of Sphinxes, so there were over 500 of them.
8. In what city are the Great Pyramids located?

Answer: Giza

Giza has the Great pyramids and The Great Sphinx. The Great Pyramids are one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Memphis and Thebes are former capitals of Egypt, and Luxor is a large city.

Giza is siutated about 20 km SW of central Cairo and is part of the Greater Cairo area.
9. What animal's head does Anubis, the God of the Dead, have?

Answer: Jackal

Anubis is famous for his jackal mask, which can be found on many Egyptian hieroglyphics. Anubis was an undertaker, the one who takes out the organs of the deceased and puts them in sacred canopic jars. The jackal mask was also used by other Egyptian undertakers.
10. The Temple of Abu Simbel would allow sunlight all the way to the back of the temple on only two days of the year. What were those days?

Answer: 22 February and 22 October

On 22 February and 22 October, sunlight would shine through the opening of The Temple of Abu Simbel and shine all the way to the back of the temple. The sunlight would light up the four statues of the Gods Amen, Osiris, Ra, and Ramses II. The sunlight would travel through large statue rooms, vestibules and treasure rooms. How the Egyptians were able to line up the temple with the sun is still unbelievable to this day.
