Schnaufer entered the Luftwaffe on the 15 November 1939. His flight training continued till 1941. He learned to fly twin engined airplanes and went finally to the Nachtjagdschule 1 (Night Fighter School 1).

Answer: II./NJG 1

He was assigned to the second group of Night Fighter Wing 1 in early november 1941, which was based at Stade, near Hamburg in Germany.

Answer: Night of 01/02 June 1942

Schnaufers first victim was a Halifax shot down near Louvain in Belgium. Schaufer was at that time based on the aerodrome of St. Trond in Belgium.

He longed to fly again, and in 1946 he tried to get to South America via Switzerland to earn his living as a pilot. He was arrested in Switzerland after crossing the border illegally.
10. On 15 July 1950 Schnaufer died. What was the cause of his death ?

Answer: Car crash

He collided on the 13 July in his sports car with a lorry which failed to observe the right of way. The cargo of the lorry, heavy gas cylinders, fell on Schaufer, including one on the head. Two days later he died from his injuries in hospital.
