1. What is the name of the world's largest railroad classification complex in North Platte, Nebraska?

Answer: Bailey Yards

Bailey Yards is over 2 miles wide and 8 miles long. It has 200 sets of tracks, 766 turnouts and 985 switches. On an average day it will classify around 139 trains with as many as 14,000 railroad cars.
2. Which fort in Nebraska was the first US Army Post west of the Missouri River?

Answer: Fort Atkinson

In 1804, the Lewis and Clark Expedition met with the Missouria and Otto Native Americans, near to where the fort would be built in 1819. William Clark recommended the site to the US Government, after returning to Washington, DC, because of its strategic view of the river from the high bluffs.
3. In which town in Nebraska did Charles Lindberg learn to fly?

Answer: Lincoln

Lindberg left college where he was studying mechanical engineering and enrolled in the Nebraska Aircraft Corporation's flying school in Lincoln. He spent several months barnstorming and wing walking in order to gain flying experience and to earn money for his flight training.

The Mormon Trail followed the north side of the Platte River and the other historical followed the south side of it. This is due to most of the settlers didn't want the Mormons traveling with them.
5. Nebraska played a big part in the early mail delivery system for the western half of the United States, called the "Pony Express". How long did it operate?

Answer: 18 months

The Pony Express ran from St. Joseph, Missouri to Oakland, California. It entered Nebraska along the Little Blue River to Fort Kearney. It then followed the Platte River passing Courthouse Rock, Chimney Rock and Scotts Bluff. The "Pony Express Highway" as it was sometimes called, exited Nebraska near Julesburg, Colorado.

Answer: Telegraph

The Pacific Telegraph Act of 1860 paved the way for a new telegraph line to run from Omaha, Nebraska, through Salt Lake City, Utah and on to Carson City, Nevada. The Omaha to Salt Lake City leg was completed on October 18th and the second leg to Carson City on October 24th of 1861.
7. What county in Nebraska is larger than the whole state of Connecticut?

Answer: Cherry

Cherry County covers 5,961 square miles, with only a population of 6,148 people (as of 2010), which if you do the math is close to one person per square mile.

After World War II the fort was used as a cattle research center by the US Department of Agriculture. But in 1960 Fort Robinson was finally declared to be a National Historic Landmark.

Answer: Burwell

For over 80 years, Burwell has held the "Nebraska Big Rodeo" on the 4th of July at the Garfield County Fair and Rodeo Grounds.
