In the fifteenth century the Medicis were the richest bankers in Florence.
2. Just two years before becoming Masters of Florence the entire Medici family was exiled from Florence.

Answer: False

It was actually only a year before coming to power that they were exiled. The merchants that were in charge of the city beforehand had learnt of a Medici plot to overthrow them and punished them by exile for ten years. This was in 1433 but the next year the Medicis were in control.

Answer: Cosimo de Medici

Cosimo was effectively in control of the city but he ruled by pretending not to rule at all. He didn't hold any public office but rather filled the city council with loyal followers.

Cosimo was a much loved ruler who turned Florence into a truly magnificent city. Under his rule Florence became a centre of art and learning and Cosimo employed the talent of the famous artist Donatello.
