1. This Confederate general is called by many historians the "Stonewall of the West".

Answer: Patrick Cleburne

Cleburne is considered one of the best Division Commanders in the western armies. He was killed in action at the Battle of Franklin.
2. This Union General was known as "Buford's Hard Hitter".

Answer: Thomas Devin

Thomas Devin became a solid brigade and division commander in the Union Army, but did not become a general until 1865, although his commission dates from the Battle of Cedar Creek in October 1864.
3. This Confederate Division commander was known as "Old Blizzards".

Answer: William Loring

Loring earned this nickname in March 1863 while defending a Confederate fort. He yelled "Give them blizzards." Loring Served in the Seminole Wars, Mexican War, Civil War, and even in Egypt after the Civil War.
4. This Union Division Commander was known as "The Magnificent".

Answer: Philip Kearny

Kearny, was given his nickname by the French, while serving in Algiers with the French in 1840. He also would charge into battle with his reins in his mouth and sword and pistol in hand, though this became more difficult after he lost his arm in the Mexican War.
5. This Confederate commander was nicknamed "Old Clubby".

Answer: Edward Johnson

Johnson was also called "Old Allegheny". He would earn the nickname "clubby" after his wound at the Battle of McDowell. He would carry a walking stick and hit his men if they did not stay in line.

Answer: Henry Halleck

Halleck was highly regarded in the old army, but had numerous clashes with many generals, including Grant, Burnside, and Hooker that would eventually hurt his standing in Lincoln's eyes.

Answer: John Marshall Jones

Lee was reluctant to give him brigade command because of his drinking. Jones promised to step down if he began drinking again. Jones was killed May 5, 1864 at the Battle of the Wilderness.

Answer: Winfield Scott Hancock

Hancock became one of the premier corps commanders in the army of the Potomac. He would command the 2nd Corps until taking over the Veteran Reserve Corps.
9. This Confederate General was known as "Prince John".

Answer: John Magruder

Magruder did good work on the Peninsula of Virginia but was not well liked by Lee. Magruder went West and fought again at the Battles of Sabine Pass and Galveston.

Answer: Joshua Owen

Owen commanded his Philadelphia Brigade through many battles of the war but he was relieved of his command on more than one occasion.
