Answer: Thomas Hooker

Thomas Hooker found the colony of Connecticut on May 1636. He was one of the people who, at the time, left the Massachusetts Bay because he believed too much power was being given to the governor and officials. Connecticut had become an American colony in the year 1662.
2. Anne Hutchinson was a famous woman at the time when colonies in the New England area were being created. What was she known for?

Answer: She was known for expressing her opinions and saying that God spoke to her.

She didn't found the colony of Maine because Maine wasn't even one of the original 13 colonies and she definitely wasn't friends with Pocahontas or a government official. Anne Hutchinson was a woman who discussed and often questioned the teachings of the minister by voicing her persuasive opinion.

She was later ordered out of the colony when she told the court that she thought God had spoken to her.
3. New York used to be known as ______________?

Answer: New Amsterdam

New York was given the name "York" because England's King Charles II, had given the colony to his brother, the Duke of York.

Roger Williams established a settlement which he named Providence, which later combined with Newport Island and Portsmouth to form the colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. He created Providence for religious tolerance because he disliked the Puritan power (and intolerance) in the colony of Massachusetts.
