Honduras declared war on July 1, 1918, four months before the end of actual hostilities, although the war did not officially end until the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on June 28, 1919.

Charles was restored to the throne on the death of Cromwell's son, and even as late as the 19th century his birthday was celebrated as a public holiday, doors and windows of houses being decorated with acorns and oak leaves.

The world's shortest war! On the death of the ruling Sultan his nephew seized power in a coup. The British Colonial administarion running the country favoured a royal cousin of the Sultan and ordered the nephew to give up the throne, which he refused to do.

The British dispatched 5 warships to the harbour and also landed 900 marines. The British ultimatum ran out at 9.02am on the 27th August and the Royal Navy ships opened fire on the palace. Shelling stopped at 9.40am. after severe destruction and the loss of some 500 lives by the "defenders".
