Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Sit! So, Giorgio, you think you know the secrets of this realm? We shall see... Tell me, by the Barovian calander, what year did Barovia first come to be in this place?"

Answer: 351

"Lord Strahd himself told me of the beginnings of Barovia here in 351. 470 was the year that we, the Vistani, came to this land and struck a deal with von Zarovich. The Grand Conjunction reshaped this realm in 740. 750 was the year the infamous Dr Rudolph van Richten - the learned monster-hunter - vanished."
2. "Hmm. Let me see. Barovia was the first land. What land was the second to appear?"

Answer: Forlorn

"Forlorn settled next to Barovia in 547, desolate save the dense forests and the mysterious Castle Tristenoira, home to ghosts and vampires. Darkon and Mordent both formed in 579. Tepest came to be much later in 691, known to be the home of the terrible cannibal Mindefisk sisters, Laveeda, Leticia, and Lordina."
3. "Not far from this camp lies the village of Barovia. Therein, hidden beneath the Blood o' the Vine Inn, an ambitious secret society plot to bring down Count von Zarovich. Can you name them?"

Answer: The Keepers of the Black Feather

"The Keepers, Barovian men and women led by wereravens and ravenkin, continue to search for the Holy Symbol of Ravenkind in hopes the artifact may hold the power to destroy Strahd. Lord Azalin maintains an iron grip on the land of Darkon through his secret police, the Kargat.

The Ba'al Verzi are a secret group of merciless assassins, active long before Barovia came to be here. Darkly beautiful and infused with deadly poisons, the ermordenung are the secret servants of Ivana Boritsi, Sefeasa of Borca."
4. "It is known to but a few that Count Strahd von Zarovich, lord of this land for centuries, suffers greatly the loss of his beloved. What was her name?"

Answer: Tatyana

"Each generation in Barovia, a woman is born perfectly resembling the lost Tatyana. And each time Strahd believes he can win over this woman - and each time fails . Lyssa von Zarovich , a creature of darkness, is the niece of Count von Zarovich. The 'Banshee of Mount Lament,' Tristessa rules the land of Keening and mourns the death of her long-lost child. Deep within Schloss Mordernheim, in the land of Lamordia, Victor Morderheim endlessly toils to restore to health what remains of his wife Elise."
5. "As we discussed before, the Grand Conjunction of 740 forever reshaped these lands. Known only to a few, however, was that the event had been foretold. Can you name the seer who authored the Hexad?"

Answer: Hyskosa

"The Vistani Hyskosa foresaw five events that would bring about great change in the Demiplane. Lord Azalin manipulated the prophecies in a bid to escape the lands, but near tore the realm apart. Ubel is an undead creature - a revenant - that has stalked these lands for many years in search of his killer. Hroth is a small village inhabited by elves far to the south from here in the land of Sithicus. Lord Wilfred Godefroy is a terrible spirit that inhabits the sinister Gryphon Manor, supposedly tormented for eternity by the family he murdered."
6. "In which of these lands would you be visiting if you were to meet the elected official taking the title of Meistersinger?"

Answer: Kartakass

"The 'singing mayors' of Kartakass achieve the position by winning an annual singing competition. Unknown to most, the current meistersinger of Skald, Harkon Lukas, is in fact a vicious wolfwere. Burgomasters and boyars- both frequently corrupt - are the main arm of government here in Barovia. Vlad Drakov is supreme ruler of Falkovnia.

His Talons - ruthless soldiers that never question his orders - keep most of the population in check. Schults are the local mayors of Lamordia."
7. "Hazlik the Red Wizard is a powerful mage and undisputed ruler of the land of Hazlan. It is known, however, that deep within the halls of his castle Veneficus in the dark hours, he struggles to avoid sleep through potions and spells. He fears it as he is visited by terrible nightmares. What is he believed to dream of?"

Answer: He is powerless and humiliated before powerful enemy wizards from his past

"Hazlik awakes more resolute to find a means to destroy all the Mulan enemies that he cowers from in his nightmares. Azalin, master of the land of Darkon, seethes with rage in the waking world at being unable to master new magicks. Baron Urik von Kharkov, the ruler of Valachan to the south, began life as a panther, was transformed into a man of sorts, and then is known to have had the kiss of vampire - he has never known what it is to be truly human. Dominic d'Honaire, the true controlling force in Dementlieu, desperately wants the devotion of women, yet has been rendered utterly repulsive to them by the dark powers of this realm."
8. "What God worshipped in these lands was said to have once been a mortal who sacrificed their life in order to become a guardian of mankind?"

Answer: Ezra

"it is said by the devoted that Ezra was once a woman who surrendered her mortality to the Mists that surround our lands and has now become a protector of humanity. Zhakata, a beastly deity worshipped in the lands of G'Henna, is known also as the Devourer, constantly demanding the crops and occasionally the lives of the people there.

The Sun God Belenus, worshipped in the lands of Tepest, Nidala, and the Shadowlands, is seen as an intolerant god who rewards with light and punishes with darkness. Deep in the Shadow Rift to the north of here, Gwydion is a evil being of immense god-like powers, who controls the lives of the fey creatures that live there."
9. "The people of these lands speak a great many tongues. What is the name we Vistani give to our language?"

Answer: Patterna

"Patterna is a flowing language, a mix of many human tongues, that you giorgio rarely master. Spoken all throughtout the realms, Balok originated in Barovia, the mother-tongue of von Zarovich himself! Originally from Mordent, Mordentish is broken into Low and High - High spoken in many other lands such as Richemulot and Dementlieu. Alanik Ray, of course, is not a language, but "The Great Detective," an elf second only to the late van Richten in his knowledge of hunting creatures of the night."
10. "Finally, if you truly know the secrets of this land, you will know that the Vistani's most hated enemy is Lord Malocchio Aderre. What is name we Vistani call a being such as he in our language?"

Answer: Dukkar

"Being Dukkar, half-fiend and half-Vistani, Malocchio is immune to our powers of casting the evil eye, the curses we call down, and cannot be detected in our prophecies. Gondegal is a powerful warrior known to have come from a distant world; he travels the realms fighting evil wherever it lay. Once the grand capital of Darkon, Il Aluk was reduced to a city of undeath, controlled by Death itself, in the Requiem of 750.

Inajira, as told to me by von Zarovich, is a demon from a distant fell plane of evil that appeared to the Count in his mortal life and promised power and victory over his enemies in exchange for eternal servitude. Now I shall reveal my judgement on your knowledge of the Domain of Dread..."
