Hands and Feet Trivia Quiz

I don't know if this game is widely-played, but it's certainly a favourite among my family and friends! Hands and Feet is a version of the popular game Canasta.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many cards does it take to make a meld?

Answer: Seven

2. Which cards are the worst in the game?

Answer: Red threes

Red threes cannot be used in melds, and will subtract 300 from your score if you have one in your hand at the end of the game.
3. When the game begins, how many points do you need initially to set down?

Answer: Sixty

When the game begins, each person (or team) starts with a score of zero, and needs 60 points to set down. Once a person (or team) accumulates a score of 3,000 they need 90 points, and after accumulating a score of 6,000 they need 120 points.
4. You can keep adding cards to which colour meld, red or black?

Answer: black

Red melds may have no more than seven cards, and no wild cards.
5. When arranging a game of Hands and Feet for four people, partners must sit how?

Answer: Opposite each other

Teams must alternate turns.
6. After the round has started and you have drawn the cards to complete your hand and foot, how many cards do you draw on each subsequent turn?

Answer: 2

Each turn begins with the player drawing two cards. The turn ends when the player discards a card (hand or foot) or when he declares that he is finished (foot only).
7. The game ends when a person (or team) reaches what total score?

Answer: 10,000

8. What's the maximum number of wild cards a red meld can have?

Answer: None

Red melds may not contain wild cards. Black melds can have between one and three.
9. How many points must you set down to move on to your foot?

Answer: Trick question

It doesn't matter how many points you've set down, as long as you end your turn with zero cards in your hand.
10. When is it a good idea to pick up the deck?

Answer: When nobody is close to going out

Any cards left in your hand when your partner, or opponents, go out is subtracted from your score. Likewise, any threes in the deck are of no benefit in gameplay and may only be discarded one at a time. The best scenario to pick up the deck is when there aren't many threes and nobody is going out.
