Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which fitness guru developed the P90X system?

Answer: Tony Horton

Prior to creating the P90X system, Horton collaborated with Debbie Siebers to create a program called "Great Body Guaranteed". In 2001 he gained recognition for the "Power 90", which is described as an "in-home boot camp". P90X (Power 90 Extreme) was introduced in 2004.
2. Which of these workouts are NOT included in the regimen for P90X?

Answer: Running

P90X uses cross-training exercises such as weight training, martial arts, yoga and calisthenics. In addition, it uses periodization, which is a systematic planning of training. Athletes who use planned training begin with a goal in mind based on their ability and timeline of performances and competitions. Along with the workouts there are nutrition and dietary supplement plans.
3. The P90X regimen is designed to last for sixty days.

Answer: False

The regimen lasts for ninety days. It is comprised of a thirteen week cycle, with exercising six days a week.
4. What term does P90X use to describe their training methods?

Answer: Muscle Confusion

Sometimes when following a workout regimen it is easy to reach a plateau due to repetition of the same exercises over and over. With the "muscle confusion" method, different exercises are constantly used to prevent such a plateau, and the expectation is that the continual benefits of exercising will be experienced.
5. All users of the P90X begin at the same place in the program and continue at the same pace throughout.

Answer: False

Each individual is able to choose from one of three different rotations: "classic", "lean", or "doubles", so workouts may be selected to target certain personal goals. Most of the workouts take less than an hour, however a workout for abs is added three times a week; this adds about fifteen minutes of exercise time.
6. The first nutritional phase of the P90X regimen diet consists more of which of the following?

Answer: Protein

There are three phases of the P90X nutrition plan. Phase 1 of the diet is called "P90X Fat Shredder". Eating more protein helps to lose fat faster and strengthen muscles.
7. After the first thirty days of the P90X nutrition regimen, what is added to the diet in greater quantities?

Answer: Carbohydrates

The second phase of the diet is called "P90X Energy Booster". There is more of a balanced mixture of protein and carbs, and the amount of fat allowed is lowered. This is said to give an extra energy boost during workouts. Phase 3 of the diet, "P90X Endurance Maximizer", centers around lean proteins and complex carbs.
8. One of the exercises available in the P90X program is called plyometrics. What phrase below would describe the type of workout in this session?

Answer: Jump Training

The purpose of this exercise is to increase speed and power, and repeated jumping accomplishes this goal. This type of exercise is used by athletes such as high jumpers and martial artists.
9. Which of the following would be considered optional equipment for beginning the P90X exercise regimen?

Answer: Yoga Mat

Individuals using this program may also want to use a push-up stand or heart monitor. The area necessary to complete the exercises is a space of about 6'x 6'.
10. What is the name of the company that markets the P90X exercise regimen?

Answer: Beachbody

Beachbody is one of several companies that specializes in exercise and fitness. It was founded by Carl Daikeler and Jon Congdonin in 1999, and is based in Santa Monica, California.
