Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What toy company produces GI Joe?

Answer: Hasbro Toys

Hasbro began producing the series in 1964. 64 - 76 was considered Joe's "Golden Age". The small version came along in 1982. Then the larger sizes were redone in 1991.
2. After the larger Joes had been discontinued, what chain store requested the series be restarted in 1991?

Answer: Target

The smaller versions had been around, but Target wanted the 12" ones. The main difference is that these were named, while the earlier ones had been generic.
3. The GI Joes came in two sizes, what were they?

Answer: 12" and 3 3/4"

The original 12 inchers ran from 1964 - 1976 while the smaller versions originally ran from 1982 - 1994. After the success at Target, Hasbro continued the sales of both.
4. Which of these was not a feature of the larger Joes?

Answer: Self-propelled

There was just something about a GI Joe, like beating Ken up, that required hands on operation.
5. In the GI Joe logo, what replaced the 'dot' above the j?

Answer: A soldier's head

This is one of the most easily recognized logos by collectors anywhere. It has been largely unchanged since its creation.
6. Some of the early Joes had a severe problem, what was it?

Answer: The heads would shrink

For the first couple of years, some of the heads would have a shrinkage problem. This was due to not having enough plasticizer in the mix. The problem was corrected.
7. When the larger Joes were reintroduced in 1991, what was the name of the first figure?

Answer: Duke

Snake Eyes came out in 1992, while Flint and Gung-Ho came out in 1993.
8. Which of these historical figures was not released as a GI Joe?

Answer: Thomas Jefferson

Well, the military nature of the other three should have been a tip off. They also released Grant, Eisenhower, MacArthur and even Bob Hope among others.
9. From the smaller version, what was the name of Joe's enemy?

Answer: Cobra

Cobra was the arch enemy in both TV and comics as well as the small scale Joes.
10. What was the subtitle to the GI Joe action figure line?

Answer: A Real American Hero

The GI Joe line has been a big seller. They have included historical figures and eras, Medal of Honor winners, tributes to current forces, foreign forces, the space program (Mercury, Apollo and the Space Shuttle) and the Tuskegee airmen - just to name a few.
