Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Snout, honker, schnozz, hooter

Answer: Nose

The next time you use your nasal cavity, olfactory organ or proboscis to take in the scent of those wonderful roses in your garden, take a moment to remember the snout, honker, schnozz or hooter instead. All of these are slang terms to describe the human nose, as well as beak, neb and snoot.
2. Orbs, peepers, mince pies, baby blues

Answer: Eyes

The eyes are said to be the window to the soul and they have a few slang words named after them. Mince pies (eyes) is Cockney rhyming slang. Baby blues are used to describe somebody with blue eyes. Orbs are spherical objects the same shape as an eye.

A peeping Tom secretly watches someone with his peepers. The phrase is said to originate from when Lady Godiva asked people to avert their eyes when she rode naked through the streets.
3. Paws, mitts, grabbers, fist

Answer: Hands

Paws, mitts, grabbers and fist are all words synonymous with the human hand. Although paws are generally associated with canine and feline animals, they are also the slang word for the human hand. Somebody with a southpaw is left-handed. Mitts is short for mittens, a woolen finger-less glove worn over the hand. Grabbers and fists are both clenched hands.
4. Cake hole, gob, chops, trap

Answer: Mouth

Where else would you put a gooey slice of chocolate brownie than inside your oral cavity, although I prefer to use the slang word "cake hole". The mouth can also be called a hatch. A well known toast is "down the hatch". This is a term that was originally used on a ship when freight was lowered into the deck below. The hatch resembled a large mouth.
5. Pins, gams, pillars, stems

Answer: Legs

The word "gam" was more than likely taken from the word "gamb" which means "animal legs". Pins, pillars and stems all allude to a thin, upright support. These along with drumsticks and uprights are all slang terms to describe a human pair of legs.
6. Noggin, bonce, nut, loaf

Answer: Head

A nog is an archaic drinking glass, and it is believed that the word "noggin" was the woozy feeling in your head that a person felt after imbibing in too many alcoholic drinks. A bonce was the name given to the largest ball in the game of marbles. A nut is an edible fruit with a hard shell, which alludes to the cranium bone. The Cockney rhyming slang for head is "loaf of bread".
7. Love handle, paunch, spare tire, blubber

Answer: Stomach

Putting on weight can give anybody extra inches around the waistline and there are several slang words used to describe this. Love handles are the extra layers of fat that bulge from the side of the body which another person can hold on to. Spare tire is a phrase used to describe the extra layer of fat around a person's mid-section. Pot belly, beer gut and paunch are other slang words for the stomach.
8. Tootsies, plates of meat, clodhoppers, trotters

Answer: Feet

Tootsie (or tootsy) are usually used to describe the toes or feet, especially in baby talk where the words sounds like a combination of toe and foot. Plate of meat is the Cockney rhyming slang for feet. Somebody with big, clumsy feet can be called a clodhopper. Trotters are pig's feet but also used as slang for human feet.
9. Gnashers, pearly whites, grill, fangs

Answer: Teeth

Gnashers is an informal way of describing teeth, especially a false set. Teeth can be as white as pearls, hence the name pearly white which is used in parts of London. Grill, fangs, ivories, chompers and dentition are all used as an alternative to teeth.
10. Bangs, barnet, thatch, shock

Answer: Hair

Bangs is the name given to a straight fringe. Barnet is Cockney rhyming slang for hair, with its meaning taken from the old Barnet horse fair that was held just outside London. Thatch, shock, mullet, afro, cowlick, bristle, mop, tress, dreads and beehive have all been used to describe a human head of hair.
