Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Janus, the Roman god of the new year, was which of the following?

Answer: two faced

The god of doors was able to see the year past and the year upcoming. He is also the origin of the name for the month of January.
2. No one wants to see the orchestra and do what?

Answer: face the music

Having to own up to your mistakes is the meaning of this idiom, but its origin is unclear. One theory is being 'drummed' out of a military group. Another possible source is a reference to an actor facing the orchestra (as suggested in the question), and having to accept the consequences of his or her performance in terms of the audience's response.
3. I never bothered my mom in the bathroom after she said she was doing what?

Answer: putting on her face

As I grew older I learned that meant applying make-up. The use of cosmetics has been around for all of recorded history. But lately it has come under some pressure for links to cancer, particularly the usage of dibutyl phthalates which have been linked to developmental problems in humans and rats.
4. A murder victim would love to be able to help a criminal do what?

Answer: face his accuser

The 6th Amendment to the US constitution contains the confrontation clause where the 'accused' has the right to face witnesses against him in person. The commission of murder precludes the victim from being any thing but a mute witness represented only by the testimony of prosecution witnesses.
5. Political arguments or childish tantrums are rumored to make you what?

Answer: blue in the face

You can argue or plead till lack of oxygen theoretically would make you blue in the face. Personally pale faced is about as close as I have seen.
6. No one wants be taken from jail to make the long walk and climb the steps to do what?

Answer: face the gallows

Another one that is self explanatory as gallows have long been a common form of execution. The most notable example recently was Saddam Hussein.
7. I mailed in my request to Charles Atlas so bullies could never do what to me?

Answer: kick sand in my face

Golden age comic books regularly had an advertisement from Mr. Atlas for bodybuilding so you would not be the 99 pound weakling. And the beach was the perfect place to show off that Mr. Universe physique.
8. Breakfast, or any other meal, would be embarrassing if you had what problem?

Answer: egg on your face

The most appropriate explanation of the origin to this phrase dates back to when actors had eggs or fruit thrown at them on stage. I always leaned toward grapefruit in the face a la James Cagney and Mae Clarke in 'Public Enemy'.
9. The newly enlisted soldier quickly learns which command?

Answer: about face

This cliche is another way of saying one is going in another or opposite direction. Soldiers learn to pivot 180 degrees to perform this one.
10. Everyone had one of these at one time so why could it be bad to still have one?

Answer: baby face

I hope you didn't pick the answer referring to mom. People often associate a youthful face with lack of experience, and many childhood actors have found that youthful look a hindrance to more mature roles.
