Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Before the video in 1998, which character has Jacob Brent not played in a production of 'Cats'?

Answer: Munkustrap

The first time he was ever in "Cats" he played Pouncival. He then played Quaxo/Mistoffelees on stage, then in the 1998 video. He has said that if he had the chance, he would love to play Rum Tum Tugger. Funny side note: John Partridge(Rum Tum Tugger in the video) has said he wants to play Mistoffelees.
2. Which cat doubles as Macavity in the video?

Answer: Plato

In a few productions Rum Tum Tugger plays Macavity as well. However, in most productions, like the video, it is Plato because he has little make up, and is only really noticed in 'The Jellicle Ball' during the mating dance.
3. Why was the song "Growltiger's Last Stand" not in the musical?

Answer: Sir John Mills was too old to do all the dancing required

Sir John Mills was too old to do all the dancing required for this part, and there were time restraints. In addition, the theatre did not have the resources for the set.
4. Femi Taylor played Tantomile in the Original London Production.

Answer: True

She played the original Tantomile in London, and the producers of the movie wanted to bring her back so they made up a character named Exotica. Fun Fact: Exotica's costume changes many times in the video.
5. Who of the following is from North America?

Answer: Jacob Brent

Aeva May is from Australia, Jo Bingham and John Partridge are both from the U.K., and Jake of course is from the United States.
6. The first production ever of "Cats" took place in London, Ontario.

Answer: False

"Cats" originally premiered in London (England)'s West End in 1981 and opened on Broadway in October 1982.
7. In the Japanese productions Rum Tum Tugger is made to look like Elvis.

Answer: True

Rum Tum is dressed all in white and has an 'Elvis' hairdo. He actually looks quite neat.
8. What are the three main colors of stagelights in the "Cats" the video? (not counting the Christmas type lights, and spotlights)

Answer: Red, Blue, and White/Yellow

If you pay attention you will see that the stage is always cast in one of three colours, or a mixture of them all. For example in 'The Jellicle Ball', after Grizabella is seen, the stage is cast in red. In darker songs there is a blue light cast.
9. Why was Veerle Castylene's voice dubbed in the "Cats" video?

Answer: She had just spent a year off in Belgium and her accent was too thick

Veerle had just spent a year off visitng family and friends in Belgium where she grew up, so her accent was too thick and you could not understand everything she said. Jo Gibbs and Drew Varely were not dubbed, even though the credits said they were. Jo Bingham was not dubbed.
10. What type of dance must the dancer have experience in to play Etcetera?

Answer: Acrobatic

The dance type that the dancer must know (besides Jazz and Ballet) is Acrobatic. This is because the character Etcetera is required to do hanstands, holds, and, in most, productions how to swing on a trapeaze.
