Fame's the Name Trivia Quiz

My quiz on "Fame" refers to the musical, not the movie that Irena Cara starred in. In this, you won't find "Out Here On My Own" or "I Sing the Body Electric" if that was what you were expecting! Either way, I hope you will have fun doing my quiz.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "After the booze and the coke" is from which song?

Answer: In L.A.

"In L.A." is the fourth to last song in "Fame". Carmen Diaz had come back from L.A. drug dependant and desperate. In the original script, she died from an overdose of what might have been cocaine (it's the only drug she mentions in the song).
The last three songs after this one are: "Let's Play a Love Scene (duet)", "Bring on Tomorrow (reprise)" and "Fame".
2. Who are the teachers arguing over in "The Teachers' Argument"?

Answer: Tyrone Jackson

Tyrone in the musical is dyslexic and finds reading difficult. Dyslexia is when a child finds reading difficult because the words appear muddled or mixed together or back to front. Signs of a dyslexic child will include putting certain letters back to front (e.g. 'd' as 'b'; 'p' as 'q' and vice versa), and extreme difficulty in reading and writing.
3. Which song was originally sung by Irena Cara in the movie?

Answer: Fame

"I Don't Know How To Love Him" is from a completely different musical! The musical it comes from is "Jesus Christ Superstar". The other two, "I Want to Make Magic" and "Bring on Tomorrow" are non-exsistent in the movie version.
4. Who says "For crying out loud, Serena! How are we supposed to get any work done if you keep acting like an adolescent?"

Answer: Nick Piazza

This dialogue occurs just before "Let's Play a Love Scene". Nick's statement is countered by Serena Katz's: "What's wrong with acting like an adolescent when that's exactly what we are?"
5. Which famous Shakespeare play is the focus in the musical?

Answer: Romeo and Juliet

"Romeo and Juliet" should be the correct answer. The "Pas De Duex" scene with Iris Kelly and Tyrone Jackson is the two characters' dance to "Romeo and Juliet" from first meeting to death, all in one dance.
6. To whom was the song "Bring on Tomorrow" dedicated?

Answer: Carmen Diaz

In fact, "Bring on Tomorrow" was also their graduation song near the end of the musical-just before "Fame". In Act One, Carmen Diaz had composed a song to Schlomo's music, and together they brought out that final song: "Bring on Tomorrow", minus some of the lyrics.
7. Who says "Carmen! I almost didn't recognise you!"

Answer: Mabel Washington

Mabel Washington says this before the song "In L.A." when Carmen has come back from L.A. about 3 1/2 years later. However, Carmen Diaz only brings out her darkest confessions when she is alone with Schlomo (her boyfriend). Not even her best friend, Mabel, heard of her death (apparently from drug overdose) until Schlomo announces it in "Bring on Tomorrow".
8. Which character would be comparable to Coco in the movie?

Answer: Carmen Diaz

Coco had a few similiarites to Carmen Diaz-including her quest for fame! Their songs "Out Here on my Own" and "In L.A." parallel with each other too. This is because they both sybmolise the characters' loneliness and hopelessness they feel after a few years searching for fame elsewhere.
9. What was Grace's nickname?

Answer: Lambchops

Grace's last name is "Lamb" and probably led to her nickname as "Lambchops". The first time we hear her full name is when Miss Sherman is taking the roll in "I pray I make P.A./Hard Work": "Lamb, Grace?"
10. In "Mabel's Prayer" what does Mabel Washington pray not to be?

Answer: The world's fattest dancer

The song is devoted to her wish to not become the world's fattest dancer, and asks God to give her a sign that he will fulfill her wish. However, in my school's production of Fame in 2003, we decided to make her an anorexic. How's that for originality? Instead of "Mabel's Prayer" we stuck in "Never Alone" from the 1980's movie.
