Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What doesn't John Wellington Wells do, according to his patter song? ["The Sorcerer"]

Answer: "Makes oceans of potions"

He's a dealer in magic, spells, blessings, curses, ever-filled purses, prophecies, witches and knells. Among other things.
2. Who can't be the king of Barataria? ["The Gondoliers"]

Answer: The Duke of Plaza-Toro

The Duke is too old, and his daughter is the queen of Barataria, so... He most definitely isn't the king.
3. Major Murgatroyd shares a family name with people from which other operetta? ["Patience"]

Answer: Ruddigore

The Murgatroyds in "Ruddigore" are the Bad Baronets mentioned below.
4. Name Robin Oakapple's blood brother, a Bad Baronet. ["Ruddigore"]

Answer: Despard

Despard is the younger brother, and shouldn't have become the Bad Baronet.
5. Who pretended to be in love with the Rich Attorney's Elderly, Ugly Daughter? ["Trial By Jury"]

Answer: The Learned Judge

The daughter "may very well pass for forty-three in the dusk, with the light behind her".

The Lord Chancellor is from "Iolanthe"; Lord Dramaleigh is from "Utopia Limited" and Viscount Mentone from "The Grand Duke".
6. Is Frederic able to save Mabel and her sisters? ["The Pirates of Penzance"]

Answer: No

He would if he could, but he is not able.
7. Who is Ko-Ko's solicitor? ["The Mikado"]

Answer: Pooh-Bah

Pooh-Bah is many things. He is most easily referred to as Lord High Everything Else.
8. Who does Sir Joseph Porter want to marry? ["HMS Pinafore"]

Answer: Josephine

I still can't believe he'd prefer to marry his cousin rather than wait `til he reached the shore to marry someone to whom he wasn't related. But anyway.

I bet you were surprised he didn't want to marry Captain Corcoran. It might have turned out all right...
9. Is Melissa Lady Psyche's daughter? ["Princess Ida"]

Answer: No

She's Lady Blanche's daughter. Lady Blanche would end up being the mother-in-law of Florian if he and Melissa really did get married. Which would mean that she would be Lady Psyche's mother-in-law.
10. Who was to originally marry Elsie Maynard? ["The Yeomen of the Guard"]

Answer: Jack Point

Jack Point collapses at the end of the operetta. There are some that say he just faints, or has a heart attack, and some that say he dies of a broken heart. This musical just depresses me, quite frankly.
