Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was Phaethon's mother?

Answer: Clymene

Apollo was his father. Pallas Athena was the goddess of wisdom, crafts, etc, while Artemis was the goddess of the hunt and also Apollo's twin sister. She would have been Phaethon's aunt, I guess. Clymene was mortal.
2. Which one of the following was said by Apollo to be a beast that could harm Phaethon?

Answer: crab

3. Who did Heracles ask to light the pyre on fire?

Answer: Philoctetes

Omphale was his master, he was her slave. He sought to kill Eurytus and Eurystheus was his first master.
4. Where did Heracles have to go in the twelfth labor?

Answer: the underworld

He did go to see Atlas in search of the golden apples, but that wasn't the twelfth labor.
5. What color were Hermes' sandals?

Answer: gold

6. In some versions of the myth, whose permission did Hades ask before capturing Persephone?

Answer: Zeus

Did you put Jupiter? This is Greek, sorry.
7. Who freed Prometheus?

Answer: Hercules

8. How many heads is the Lernean Hydra generally accepted to have?

Answer: nine

Hercules killed it.
9. Who did Zeus have to defeat to become king of the gods?

Answer: Cronus, the Giants, and the Titans

10. The weaving contest between Arachne and the goddess Athena was never completed to the finish.

Answer: True

Arachne was better, but Athena took umbrage to Arachne's subject matter (amorous transgressions of the gods). In a fury Athena destroyed Arachne's tapestry before it could be completed, and turned her into a spider.
