Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Masquerade! Paper faces on parade. Masquerade! Hide your face _________."

Answer: so the world will never find you

After the "Entr'acte", we were at the staircase of the Opera House. This was 6 months after the incident during "Il Muto". Everyone was celebrating the New Year and the disappearance of the Phantom. The verse above came from "Masquerade" sung by all the guests at the party. We also found out that Raoul and Christine had secretly become engaged.
2. "Why so silent, good messieurs? Did you think that I had left you for good? Have you missed me, good messieurs? ________________."

Answer: I have written you an opera

The Phantom appeared suddenly on the top of the staircase, dressed in crimson robe. He brought the finished score of "Don Juan Triumphant" to the managers, commanding it to be performed. Then he evaporated.
3. "The world forgot him but I never can. For in this ___________ I have seen him again."

Answer: darkness

At the backstage, Raoul tried to ask Madame Giry about the Phantom. She told him that he was a "prodigy" and he escaped from the travelling fair. "They never found him, it was said he had died."
4. "Fondest greetings to you all, a few instructions ______________."

Answer: just before rehearsal starts

This is during "Notes" when Andre, Firmin, Carlotta, Piangi, Christine and Raoul were arguing about the new opera. Madame Giry, along with Meg, came in with a note from the Phantom.
5. "We shall play his game, perform his work ________________."

Answer: but remember we hold the ace

After Madame Giry read the notes from the Phantom, Raoul came up with an idea. He wanted Christine to sing because if she sang, then the Phantom would be certain to attend and they would "end his reign".
6. "Can I betray the man,_______________?"

Answer: who once inspired my voice

This is from "Twisted Every Way". Christine cried out as she pleaded Raoul not to make her sing. At the end of the song, she turned away and hurried out of the room.
7. Which lines from the song "The Phantom of the Opera" did Christine sing before she entered the graveyard?

Answer: "In sleep he sang to me... In dreams he came... That voice which calls to me and speaks my name."

After a confusing rehearsal for "Don Juan Triumphant", we witnessed Christine as she transfered herself to the graveyard where the body of her father is buried. Here's a little fact: the phrase, "Beneath the Opera House..." is from the version that Sarah Brightman sings with Steve Harley. This phrase is not sung in the musical production.
8. "Too many years fighting back tears, ________________"

Answer: why can't the past just die?

This is from "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again", a beautiful solo indeed. Christine visited her father's grave. She knew that if she could free herself from his memory, she will no longer be in thrall to the Phantom.
9. "Angel of Darkness, ___________." (This is what Raoul said as the Phantom was hypnotizing Christine.)

Answer: cease this torment!

The Phantom appeared to Christine in the graveyard. He started to hypnotize her, but was broken as Raoul arrived on the scene. Christine and Raoul ran off together. Enraged, the Phantom declared, "Now let it be war upon you both!"
10. "Seal my fate tonight! I hate to have to cut the fun short, but the joke's wearing thin. Let the audience in. _____________!"

Answer: Let my opera begin

This is, in fact, my favourite phrase and favourite part of the show. This was sung right before the premiere of "Don Juan Triumphant". Raoul was instructing the officers to secure the doors. The voice of the Phantom mockingly commanded that the opera begin.
11. "Here's my hat, my cloak, and sword. Conquest is assured, if I do not forget myself and ______."

Answer: laugh

This is from "Don Juan Triumphant" where Don Juan, played by Piangi, tried to trick Aminta, played by Christine. He put on Passarino's cloak and hid in the room covered with curtains.
12. "Past all thoughts of right or wrong, one final question: How long should we two wait ___________?"

Answer: before we're one

In this scene, Piangi was killed by the Phantom and the Phantom took place of Piangi in the role of Don Juan. He sang the duet "The Point of No Return" with Christine (Aminta). As their duet finished, Christine tear the mask from his face. Before the officers could arrest him, the Phantom swept his cloak around her and both of them vanished.
13. "Hounded out by everyone! Met with hatred anywhere! No _______ from anyone! No compassion anywhere! Christine, Christine... Why, why...?"

Answer: kind word

As the Phantom took Christine down to his lair under the Opera House, he explained the truth about him to her. The angry mob followed them closely. Madame Giry led Raoul to the Phantom's lair.
14. "Pitiful creature of darkness, ________________"

Answer: what kind of life have you known?

Raoul appeared. The Phantom trapped him in the Punjab Lasso and offered Christine a bizarre choice: she must either stay with him forever or see Raoul killed. Christine realized that his true disfigurement lies not in his face but in his soul. She gave him a long and passionate kiss. The Phantom relented and ordered them both to go and forget all that they had seen.
15. What was the last phrase that the Phantom said to Christine to her face?

Answer: "Christine, I love you."

After the Phantom ordered them both to go, he sang to himself a phrase from "Masquerade". Christine came back to return her ring to the Phantom. At this point, the Phantom sang "Christine, I love you." Then Christine hurried off with Raoul and Phantom was left alone.

He looked after her and sang his final phrase (of the musical), "You alone can make my song take flight. It's over now, the music of the night." The mob came closer. The Phantom hid himself under his cloak on his throne. When the mob arrived, all that remained of the Phantom was a white mask... Well, that's it for this quiz. Don't forget to vote or write me whether you like it or not. Hope you enjoy the quiz!
