Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who sings "Imagine me, trying too hard to put you from my mind"?

Answer: Christine

Although Carlotta begins by singing it first, Christine ends up singing it in "Think of Me." Christine sung it when Carlotta quit because of the Phantom!
2. The Phantom sings "Ignorant fool, this brave young suitor, sharing in my triumph." Who is the "ignorant fool" that the Phantom is singing of?

Answer: Raoul

This is sung after Meg and Christine's duet of "Angel of Music." Jealous of Christine's affection for Raoul, and vice versa, the Phantom lets Christine know that he doesn't approve. After the Phantom sings that line, Christine responds with "Angel, I hear you! Speak, I listen. Stay by my side, guide me!"
3. Christine sings "Those who have seen your face draw back in fear. I am the mask you wear..." Whose face is she referring to?

Answer: The Phantom's face

This line is in the title song, "The Phantom of the Opera." Sung by Christine, it gets the response of "your spirit and my voice in one combined; the phantom of the opera is there inside my mind."
4. The Phantom sings "a mask, my first, unfeeling scrap of clothing." Who is mentioned in the line before it?

Answer: His mother

"This face, which earned, my mother's fear and loathing." Yes, it's his mother. She also, according to Susan Kay's "Phantom," made him his first mask.
5. Who are Andre and Firmin singing to when they sing "Prima Donna, first lady of the stage, your devotees are on their knees to implore you"?

Answer: Carlotta

They're trying to persuade Carlotta to return to the stage to sing the leading lady's role in "Il Muto." Unfortunately, the Phantom gave Carlotta the silent role of the pageboy, but she wouldn't take the smaller role.
6. Who is the Phantom talking to when he sings "Sir, this is indeed an unparalleled delight! I had rather hoped that you would come. And now my wish comes true - you have truly made my night!"?

Answer: Raoul

Raoul goes down to the Labyrinth so he can rescue Christine. Unfortunately for him, the Phantom has other plans. It's from here that the grasshopper and scorpion come to play.
7. "You alone can make my song take flight - it's over now, the music of the night." This is one of the last verses sung in the production. Who sings it and to whom?

Answer: The Phantom to Christine

Both Raoul and the Phantom love Christine, but the Phantom lets her go. I think that he knows that he can't give her the life that she deserves, and that he knows that Raoul can.
8. What is the song that the music box plays?

Answer: Masquerade

"Masquerade, paper faces on parade...". At the end of the production, the Phantom hears this song being played by the music box. Sadly, he sings along, at least in the original Broadway recording.
9. Raoul sings the lines "I love her! Does that mean nothing? I love her! Show some compassion . . .". What is the Phantom's response?

Answer: "The world showed no compassion to me!"

Raoul is begging the Phantom to give up Christine so they can go and live happily ever after. The Phantom does give her up, but only after he knows she'll never love him as he loves her.
10. In the rehersal of "Hannibal," Carlotta sings "This trophy from our saviours, from the enslaving force of Rome!" What is the next line?

Answer: "With feasting and dancing and song..."

Carlotta gives up the role to Christine because she won't be singing because "These things do happen! Well, until you stop these things happening, this thing does not happen!"
