1. I am a long thrusting weapon used by members of many armies from centuries ago; what am I?

Answer: Pike

These freshwater fish are found in Northern America, Siberia, Western Europe and Eurasia. They have also been found in Lucerne and in London and in some lakes of Western Europe as well as their rivers. They can grow to a maximum of six feet and weigh almost 90lbs. It's scary if one of those brushes up against you in the water. Some also live up to thirty years of age!
2. I'm a relentless person in business or law, or someone who is an expert at the game of pool - what is my fishy name?

Answer: Shark

Sharks are more than 420 million years old and lived before the age of the dinosaur. They have been classified into an amazing 440 different species and range in size from six inches in length, to a whopping forty feet in the case of the whale shark. Most live in saltwater and their skin is designed to protect them from damage.

They come complete with replaceable teeth - several sets of them in fact. They're quite fascinating creatures once you stop being terrified of them, but today their survival is under threat from humans.
3. I'm someone who likes to relax by dangling a baited rod into water - do you know who I am?

Answer: Angler

The angler fish is also referred to as the fishing-frog. It is found in waters from the Barents Sea to the Straits of Gibraltar, and in the Mediterranean and the Black Seas as well. It has a large, broad and flat head with a very large mouth full of very long and very sharp teeth.

When prey swims into its mouth, it snaps its jaw shut fast, like the bars of a jail cell, to prevent it escaping.
4. I am a somewhat old fashioned name for a cleaning lady - what fishy name do I have?

Answer: Char

A char is a member of the salmonoid genus. Some are referred to as being trout. With small scales, they also tend to have light reddish spots over a darker coloured body. They're a popular sports fish, but in some areas where they have been introduced locally, they are now considered an invasive species.
5. I am a beam of sunlight - what is my name?

Answer: Ray

There are more than 500 species of rays and these are classified into thirteen different families. They have flat, floating bodies with the eyes located on the top of the head. 6. I am a sharp backward point at the end of a fish hook - what am I?

Answer: Barb

Barbs are given this name because most have a pair of barbels on their mouths which they use to search for food. Barbels are long, slender, whisker-type organs and are used as tactile devices in seeking food along the water beds. Barbs can be eaten for food, but their eggs are poisonous.
7. I am a description for overcast and unpleasant weather - do you know what I am?

Answer: Bleak

Answer: Carp

10. I am a small shallow boat about six metres long - what am I?

Answer: Dory

The dory fish comprises several different families. They have large eyes and a silvery coloured, narrow body. Most are deep sea fish and are considered by commercial fishermen to be an excellent food source. Oh, and by the way, Dory the fish in the 2003 film "Finding Nemo" is not a dory fish at all. She's a species of fish known as regal tang - but she probably forgot that.
