He knows it was the thieves after the pearl and immediately goes to Juan, his brother's, house and hides there with Juana and Coyotito. He then plans to leave with his family to go to the capital.

There were four pearl buyers at the time, and the first buyer offered 1000 pesos at first. The second one said the pearl was too big to be used. The third said he would buy it for 500 pesos and sell it for 600 pesos to a client. The fourth said the pearl would deteriorate and wasn't durable.

After Kino was outraged and was storming out, the first buyer raised his offer to 1500 pesos, but Kino still stormed out.

While resting off the road he sees three trackers on the road. There is one with a rifle and two walking along. He immediately tells Juana to shush Coyotito and Kino goes into one of the trees to spy on them.

In a cave, Juana and Coyotito are up somewhere hiding, while Kino is sneaking closer to the three trackers who were resting there. The one with the rifle was the stake out while the other two were sleeping. The one with the rifle hears Coyotito's crying and when Kino came lunging out shot Coyotito in the head.
