Helen Oyeyemi twists the story of Snow White into her 2014 story about a girl named Boy, her stepdaughter named Snow, and the daughter Boy and Arturo have together named Bird. When Bird is born, her birth reveals the fact that Boy and Arturo are both light skinned African Americans.

Hesitating over the fact that Arturo's family wants the dark skinned Bird to be sent away, Boy has her stepdaughter Snow sent away instead so Bird, Boy, and Arturo can be a family.
2. "Princess of Thorns" by Stacey Jay

Answer: Sleeping Beauty

Stacey Jay turns the fairytale of "Sleeping Beauty" into a gender swapping fairy tale when eleven princes are fated to die after a witch's curse and one prince searches for a way to break it. Meanwhile Princess Aurora must fight to get back everything she lost when she was a child. Published in 2014, Stacey Jay's "Princess of Thorns" weaves a tale of mysticism, romance, and truth.

Published in 2003, Gregory Maguire's "Mirror, Mirror" twisted the story of Snow White into an Italian tale about Bianca de Nevada and her will to survive her guardian, Lucrezia Borgia, and the woman's ardent tries at killing Bianca by sword or by poison apple.

Amy Gumm lived in Kansas before a tornado transported her to Oz. This Oz, however, isn't the city she remembered from the movie. In Danielle Paige's 2015 book, Amy learns that Dorothy from Kansas is evil and is threatening the lives of everyone who doesn't bow before her. Joining a group known as the Order, Amy knows one thing has to happen to protect herself and the people in Oz: Dorothy must die.
