John, Blay, and Qhinn got their introduction to the beast. Must have been a shock! The Scribe Virgin allowed him to keep his curse, the beast, in exchange for Mary's life. The beast is a large dragon that comes out whenever Rhage loses control of himself.

The law states that Wrath cannot fight anymore now that he has ascended, but better to ask forgiveness than beg permission! Considering his eyesight, you can't blame the guy for wanting more out of life than paperwork.
