What was that profession?

Right where?

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I am called Lanfear by you pitiful mortals and your pet Aes Sedai. But still my birth name grips men's hearts in claws of terror ... and rightly so! What is my birth name?

Answer: Mierin Eronaile

My birth name was indeed Mierin Eronaile. As is the case with all the other Dreadlords who were bound at Shayol Ghul after the War of Power I got a new name when I became one of the Dark One's Chosen / Forsaken (depending on your allegiance). Therefore, Mierin Eronaile became Lanfear.

Lilen Moiral became Moghedien.
Kamarile Maradim Nindar became Greandal.
Saine Tarasind became Mesaana.
2. So, you may keep calling me Lanfear. I quite like the sound of it since it plays the chords of terror to the music of despair. You even might want to sing along! If only you knew the lyrics... What does Lanfear mean?

Answer: Daughter of the Night

My name 'Lanfear' is from the Old Tongue and means 'Daughter of the Night'.

'The Rose of the Sun' translates as 'Al Ellisande'. It is part of the ancient battle cry of fallen Manetheren which completely goes 'Carai an Caldazar! Carai an Ellisande! Al Ellisande!' - 'For the honor of the Red Eagle! For the honor of the Rose of the Sun! The Rose of the Sun!'
'Wormwood' translates as 'Ordeith'. This is the name Padan Fain used while he was with the Children of the Light.
'Ishamael' means 'Betrayer of Hope'.
3. In the Third Age I am quite a busy woman. What, with defeating the other Chosen, making kingdoms tremble, seducing the Dragon Reborn ... you know, the usual things to do. But, when I was still a mortal, I did have a regular profession! What was that profession?

Answer: Researcher

Yes, I was a famous researcher at the floating university of Collam Daan.
During my studies, I was the first to discover an energy source which could be tapped by both men and women equally: the True Source. (My proposal to call it the 'Lanfear Source' was refused.)

Moghedien (that bloody coward!) was investment advisor.
Ishamael (flaming fool!) was a philosopher and theologian.
Aginor (madman, that one!) was a biologist.
4. I have to admit that I had a little crush on Lews Therin during some very distant Age. But, hey, let that simpering wench Ilyena have him. I have found a better man. Not just a Dragon - the Dragon Reborn! Do you remember how I introduced myself when I first met Rand al'Thor in this Age?

Answer: Lady Selene

In this Age I first met Rand during the Great Hunt (for the Horn of Valere). I introduced myself as Lady Selene, a lesser noblewoman of Cairhien. Then I led Rand, Loial and Hurin through a Portal Stone and persuaded Rand into Channeling us back to the real world.

Lady Colavaere was a powerful noblewoman of House Saighan in Cairhien.
Lady Shiane was murdered by the Darkfriend Mili Skane.
Lady Estanda was a High Lady of Tear.
5. Let us stay with some of my aliases. When I travelled through the Waste with Lews Ther... er... Rand al'Thor, his so-called Aiel and my colleague Asmodean I disguised myself as a fat peddler woman in the company of Hadnan Kadere. What name did I use?

Answer: Keille Shaogi

I travelled through the Waste as Keille Shaogi, that sweating commoner. My party of peddlers included Hadnan Kadere and Isendre (two Friends of the Dark), as well as Asmodean who acted as the gleeman Jasin Natael.

Cyndane - meaning 'Last Chance' in the Old Tongue - was the name given to me after my reincarnation by the Great Lord of the Dark.
For a short time I posed as Else Grinwell in the White Tower.
Mistress Kadere is pure invention.
6. Although Moghedien keeps claiming her dominance over Tel'aran'rhiod, you and I know that this is in truth MY domain. Admittedly, the Spider is quite proficient within the World of Dreams. So are the Aiel Wise Ones and the wolves. The wolves... What do they call me?

Answer: Moonhunter

The wolves have indeed mastered Tel'aran'rhiod: When a wolf dies, its soul enters what they call the 'wolf dream'. We know that this is the same place humans call the World of Dreams. Perrin, being a Wolfbrother like Elyas Machera, could also enter and leave the wolf dream at will. The wolves have given many creatures of the Shadow their own names, for example Myrddraal are called 'Neverborn' and Trollocs 'Twisted Ones'.
Their name for me is Moonhunter.

Heartfang is their name for the Great Lord.
Heartseeker is their name for the disgusting goat Greandal.
7. All right. Enough of my names. Let us instead curse that 'blue woman' who tackled me on the docks of Cairhien and dragged me through that twisted redstone doorframe! What was that sissy's name again? Moiraine something?

Answer: Damodred

On the docks of Cairhien the battle between Rand and me took place. I had already incapacitated Rand's entourage and was on the brink of victory because Rand couldn't bring himself to hurt me, a woman - even one of the Forsaken. Bereft of her power to Channel that hunchbacked Moiraine Damodred used sheer physical force to tackle me. We both fell through the redstone doorframe and disappeared. ('The Fires of Heaven')

Demandred is the given name of one of my fellow Chosen.
Taringail (Damodred) is ugly Moiraine's half-brother.
Melaidhrin is the surname of Cadsuane 'try-to-be' Sedai.
8. Oh, lucky me! I was rescued from the Finns and subsequently reincarnated as Cyndane - literally my last chance. Unfortunately, my freedom was taken by a cour'souvra. Who holds my mindtrap?

Answer: Moridin

That damn cour'souvra is held by the Nae'blis Moridin. He not only held my mindtrap but also that of Moghedien. By means of the cour'souvra Moridin could force both of us to obey any command given to us. Apparently he enjoyed fondling the two traps which hung on a chain around his chest.

Whenever Moridin caressed my trap I felt a slight pressure upon my mind. Needless to say, I (and, all right, incompetent Moghedien) was quite vexed by the situation.
9. Well, puny mortal, I fear it is time to say farewell. I don't know whatever I did wrong that the Wheel feels the need to weave me into oblivion. But it does, apparently. I draw my final breath before returning to darkness. I die, right here... Right where?

Answer: Pit of Doom

Alas, I died in the Tel'aran'rhiod reflection of the Pit of Doom - defeated in my own domain! To make matters worse, I just had victory in my grasp. Moridin was being controlled by Rand, Moiraine and Nynaeve (that hussy) who were using the flawed sa'angreal Callandor through the Nae'blis. Drawing upon his power, defeating the Great Lord, resealing the Bore...
What do the Borderlanders always say? Death is lighter than a feather. Yes, it is...
10. Oh, one last question remains, of course. To prepare my revenge in the coming Age, I need to know the name of my flea-ridden murderer! Who is that light-cursed person that dared kill me?

Answer: Perrin Aybara

Oh, yes. Thanks, my friend. It was Perrin Aybara (that ugly wolf-spawn) who somehow overcame my Weave of Compulsion, raised his anvil-sized hand ... and broke my neck.

Pity.
