Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of Carrie's senior school?

Answer: Ewen High School

This is where Carrie went through the torments that teenage girls inflict on each other. One of the wrong answers is where I went through mine! Another wrong answer may be familiar to British players - Fenn Street was the setting for a British comedy series called 'Please, Sir'.
2. By the sounds of it, Carrie's mother, Margaret, also had a tough time of it at the same school. Why did Margaret beat a fellow student with her purse?

Answer: Margaret saw the classmate smoking a cigarette

Peculiar woman. One (well I did) wonders what Carrie would have become in a more normal household?
3. After her humiliation over her period, what was the name of the little boy who Carrie telekinetically pushed off his bike on her walk home?

Answer: Tommy Erbter

He had just called her 'fart-face' and 'prayin' Carrie'! I'm sure you all recognise the wrong answers (George from 'It', Mark from 'Salem's Lot' and Danny from 'The Shining').
4. What was Carrie's mother's maiden name?

Answer: Brigham

Margaret didn't marry Ralph until she was thirty. Her mother remarried to a man named Harold Alison, but they had 'lived in sin', which didn't please Margaret! Miss Desjardin and Donna Thibodeau are Carrie's gym mistress and a classmate, respectively.
5. What was Tommy Ross's middle name?

Answer: Everett

If you skipped the 'learned thesis' bits because they were boring, you might have missed this bit. The thesis also discusses the Kennedy assassination, hence the 'Harvey' and 'Fitzgerald' wrong answers. Winston is a popular middle name in the UK like Jefferson seems to be in the US.
6. Was Carrie's telekinetic talent completely natural and unforced?

Answer: No

Carrie had been practicing since her humiliation, starting with a hairbrush.
7. What was the name of the owner of the farm where Billy Nolan and his gang got the pig blood?

Answer: Irwin Henty

They could break in because Irwin Henty had gone to his mother's funeral, and his hired hand was chatting up a waitress at The Cavalier.
8. What did Tommy bring Carrie as a corsage?

Answer: Tea roses

Lilies might have been more appropriate, given how the evening ended!
9. Billy Nolan was Chris Hargensen's first lover. True or false?

Answer: False

But he was the first she couldn't 'dance and dandle at her whim'.
10. What does Carrie tell Norma Watson is her secret when Norma asks her for the secret that makes Carrie so glowing?

Answer: "I'm Don McLean's secret lover"

Although she probably did love Tommy a little bit (for showing up) this was probably Carrie's first joke. One only hopes she meant the 'American Pie' singer rather than the British large-toothed 'Crackerjack' presenter!
11. In "Carrie", when was the coronation of the Prom King and Queen scheduled?

Answer: 10 p.m.

Carrie said she had to get home by 11.30, so her Momma wouldn't be worried. As it happened, that wasn't either Tommy or Carrie's worst problem...
12. Carrie and Tommy Ross were outright, runaway winners of the vote for Prom King and Queen. True or false?

Answer: False

In the first vote, Tommy and Carrie tied with Frank Grier and Jessica MacLean - 63 votes each. They won the second time by one vote. Tommy had voted for himself and Carrie again, despite her forebodings.
13. What was Tommy and Carrie's first dance as Prom King and Queen?

Answer: None of these

Poor Tommy and Carrie never got to dance together. Tommy was dead and Carrie was...annoyed! They would have looked lovely dancing to 'Lady In Red'...
14. What was the name of the first gas station that exploded?

Answer: Teddy's Amoco

Belonged to Teddy Duchamp - haven't I heard that name somewhere before? Tony's Citgo also goes up later.
15. How did Carrie kill her mother - remember, this is from the book, not the movie?

Answer: Stopped her heart

In the film, Carrie propelled knives at her mother - causing British wits to shout out in cinemas "One hundred and eighty!" (Said when darts players score the maximum). Very tasteless (but funny!)
16. Billy and Chris got away with it after causing the carnage in 'Carrie'. True or fase?

Answer: False

Carrie used her telekinetic powers to cause their car to crash.
17. What time did Sue find Carrie?

Answer: 2.00 a.m.

Yes, Carrie trashed Chamberlain in less than four hours. At least Carrie didn't die alone.
18. Was Sue Snell, Tommy Ross' girlfriend in 'Carrie', pregnant?

Answer: No

Although she'd missed her period for a while by the time of the Prom, running away from Carrie's body, it started.
19. What was Carrie's full first name?

Answer: Carrietta

It's not a name I've ever heard anybody called. Real life Cariettas are welcome to prove me wrong!
20. The end of the book is a letter about another possible Carrie. What is this child's name?

Answer: Annie Jenks

I love the way Stephen King leaves us with the idea that this might all happen again - reminds me of 'Christine' and 'her unending fury'...
