Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which school do Alex Cross' children attend?

Answer: The Sojourner Truth School

Christine Johnson is the head of the school. She has been a widow for six months and is reluctant to start getting involved with Alex, even though she is very attracted to him.
2. What is the name of the Cross family's cat?

Answer: Rosie

Gary Soneji left the cat on Alex Cross' doorstep, knowing that he would take the cat in and keep it as a family pet. When he started to be concerned about Soneji's plans, Cross took the cat to the FBI to have it checked over to see if Soneji could have done anything to it that would harm his family. Happily, Rosie got a clean bill of health.
3. Where did Mr. Smith leave the body of Chief Inspector Cabott?

Answer: Under the statue of Eros in Picadilly Circus

Mr. Smith put the remains of Cabott's body in a grey duffel bag and left it under the famous statue in Picadilly Circus. The Chief Inspector was his eighteenth victim.
4. Gary Soneji killed his daughter, Roni Murphy.

Answer: False

Soneji killed his wife Missy, but left his daughter tied up in a cupboard in the cellar. She was rescued by Alex Cross and his partner, John Sampson.
5. What was the name of the prison from which Gary Soneji escaped?

Answer: Lorton

Alex Cross went to Lorton Prison to interview Jamal Autry. Autry had known Soneji whilst he was in prison and had important information for Cross regarding Soneji. From Autry, Cross learned that Gary Soneji had been infected with the AIDS virus while in prison. As he was dying, he would want to go out with a wild killing spree.
6. Who killed Shareef Thomas?

Answer: Alex Cross

Shareef Thomas had infected Soneji with the AIDS virus, so Soneji planned to track him down and kill him. Cross and Carmine Groza were staking out the crackhouse where Thomas had been seen, waiting for Soneji to arrive, then Cross went inside and Thomas turned a shotgun on him. Cross killed Thomas to save himself.
7. Which Patti Smith song was playing as Mr. Smith prepared to kill victim number nineteen?

Answer: Summer Cannibals

Mr. Smith felt that the song was very appropriate. It was followed by The Door's song 'People Are Strange', also suitable for the occasion, in Mr. Smith's opinion.
8. What was the name of the Inspector from Interpol who worked with Thomas Pierce to catch Mr. Smith?

Answer: Sondra Greenberg

Sondra Greenberg was British, but worked for Interpol. She was dedicated to solving the gruesome murders commmitted by Mr. Smith.
9. What was the message that Mr. Smith had flown across the sky while the FBI were looking for him in Atlantic City?

Answer: Mr. Smith is gone for now! Wave good-bye.

Mr. Smith left Inez Marquez's body on the beach near Steel Pier. As the FBI were looking at the crime scene, a prop plane flew over, with the message on a large banner behind it.
10. What was the name of the Inspector that Alex Cross had to call in Bermuda?

Answer: Patrick Busby

When the murder cases had both been solved, and Gary Soneji and Thomas Pierce were dead, Alex Cross took his family and his new girl friend, Christine, to Bermuda for a holiday. When Christine did not return from her souvenir shopping on time, Cross became worried and called the police.

Inspector Busby was initially unconcerned by her disappearance, but, on discovering what Cross did for a living, he soon realized that there was something for him to investigate. As the book ends at that point, we have to wait to find out what happened to Christine. What a way to leave a story! The kidnapping is finally solved in the next adventure, 'Pop Goes The Weasel', although it is not until half way through that book that we see Christine again.
