The first half of the novel described two men, ex-agents, abducting people and taking them to another man to be disposed of. Eventually their names, Suarez and Overton, were revealed. They had no idea who Zeus was. They were both killed in a shootout with Alex.

The President's husband turned out to be the man responsible for several murders. Ironically, the head of the Secret Service, Dan Cormorant, was the one responsible for Zeus's death. He pulled the First Gentleman out of a party and shot him to death, right in front of all of the guards and Secret Service agents.

His actions were both acts of assassination and suicide, because he was shot down right afterward.
