Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What colour are the flashes in the sky, allegedly caused by meteor debris?

Answer: Green

The 'green flashes' cause everyone who sees them to go blind.
2. What is the name of the book's hero?

Answer: Masen

Bill Masen is, in my opinion, a wonderful character. His reactions are so perfectly rational that it makes the book so much more alive to the reader - which is actually quite frightening.
3. What is the name of Josella's famous book?

Answer: Sex is My Adventure

She is currently writing 'Here the Forsaken' when the book starts, she later refers to herself as the 'author' of her son David, but 'Sex is my Adventure' is her famous novel, which she cannot shake the influence of, in society, not even in the aftermath of a worldwide catastrophe.
4. What is the name of the area in London, where you can buy the best anti-triffid gear, according to the book?

Answer: Clerkenwell

Bill and Josella collect lots of equipment to combat the triffids, which no-one else sees as being a threat.
5. What is the name of the man who traps Bill and Josella into leading groups of blind people around?

Answer: Coker

The Colonel and Micheal Beadley are members of the group whom Bill and josella meet at the tower; Miss Durrant splits from the main group to form a more 'utopian' society and Coker turns out to be less of a problem later on.
6. What does the 'plague' seem to resemble, but for the somewhat shorter incubation period?

Answer: Typhoid

One theory brought up later in the book is that the plague may have been a form of biological warfare, brought down with the green flashes.
7. What is the name of the manor house where Miss Durrant's group is stationed?

Answer: Tynsham

Miss Durrant leads Bill and Coker astray to prevent them from joining up with the other, less moral, group.
8. Who does the young woman, in the village hospital, believe will come and save them?

Answer: The Americans

The girl, whose name is not mentioned, believes that nothing could have happened to the Americans and is sure that they will be along soon to sort it all out.
9. What is the name of the little girl who is left all alone in her house, after the disapearance of her parents and the death of her brother?

Answer: Susan

Susan is found by Bill whilst he is looking for Josella. He buries her brother, who was killed by a triffid. It is the only grave he ever digs.
10. Where have 'Beadley's Lot' made their headquarters, when they invite the inhabitants of Shirning Farm to join them?

Answer: The Isle of Wight

The fact that it is surrounded by water gives it natural protection from triffids, perfect for the few remaining people of England...
