Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the Doctor's companions featured in this book?

Answer: Susan, Ian and Barbara

"An Unearthly Child" (presumably referring to Susan), included the first TARDIS trip for Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright - two school teachers.
2. It was the first "Doctor Who" story, but was "An Unearthly Child" the first "Doctor Who" novelisation?

Answer: No

No, it wasn't. On of the books that preceeded it was "Doctor Who and the Daleks", by David Whittaker, and it was written as though it actually was the first "Doctor Who" story - as if "An Unearthly Child" never happened. Also, at the beginning of "Doctor Who and the Daleks", Ian and Barbara are complete strangers.
3. The band "John Smith and the Common Men" was mentioned early in the book. It is stated that "John Smith" was just a stage name. Who was it a stage name for?

Answer: The Honourable Aubrey Waites

Apparently it wasn't "fashionable to be upper class".
4. Who is first captured by the "Tribe"?

Answer: The Doctor

Sara (as in Sara Kingdom)and Vicki were not even in this story. Sara only featured in the serial "The Daleks Master Plan", ending up dead, and Vicki joined the Doctor after Susan left, in "The Rescue".
5. Who is the leader of the Tribe?

Answer: Za

"Mig" doen't exist. Hur was, for want of a better word, Za's wife and Kal was the one who wanted to be the tribe leader.
6. The Doctor kills the sabre-toothed tiger.

Answer: False

Za is attacked by the tiger and manages to slam his axe-head into its skull. The Doctor had absolutely nothing to do with it.
7. Of the following, what is the TARDIS mentioned to have changed shape into, other than a police box?

Answer: A sedan chair

Susan also mentions that it had cahanged into an "Ionic column". The companions were wondering why the TARDIS hadn't changed shape as it usually did.
8. What is "Orb"?

Answer: The sun

The tribesmen intended to kill Barbara, Susan, Ian and the Doctor on the "Stone of Sacrifice" when the so-called Orb touched said stone.
9. At the end of this book what planet are the Doctor and his companions on?

Answer: Skaro

Yes, Skaro, the infamous planet of the doubly infamous Daleks.
"The Doctor was about to meet the creatures who were destined to become his greatest enemies.
Out there on Skaro, the Daleks were waiting for him."
10. In what year was "An Unearthly Child" first published?

Answer: 1981

This was long after "An Unearthly Child" was actually originally broadcast - that is, 1963.
