Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When Daja thanks the God Trader Koma, what are we told he is the God of?

Answer: Deals and rewards

He is first mentioned in the first chapter of "The Magic in the Weaving".

"'Thank you Trader Koma', she whispered to the god of deals and rewards."
2. Lark's goddess is Mila of the Grain, the earth goddess, but who is her consort?

Answer: The Green Man

This is taken from "Magic Steps" chapter 5 when Sandry goes into the family chapel at Pascos' house. Nidra and Glaise are both places on the map in the book.

"Lark's own goddess Mila of the Grain, the earth goddess and her consort the Green Man".
3. Shurri Firesword is male.

Answer: False

Once again taken from "Magic Steps" in the family chapel.

"Shurri Firesword, the GODDESS of fire and warriors"
4. Hakkoi the Smith is the god of what?

Answer: forges and the law

Once again taken from "Magic Steps" in the family chapel.

Shurri Firesword is the goddess for fire and warriors.

Interestingly, when Hakkoi is mentioned in "Shatterglass" he is described at the god of smiths and glassmakers! chapter 3
5. Which characteristic does not describe the statue of Harrier the Clawed?

Answer: Eagle's head

Once again taken from "Magic Steps" in the family chapel.

"She [Sandry] paused before the only unfamiliar statue: a man with a hawk's head, feet and wings in brown and blue feathers, wearing a long black coat. A sword and dagger hung from the belt at his waist. In one hand he carried a lantern, in the other a set of manacles."
6. Asaia Birdwinged is the goddess of learning. Her statue is described in "Shatterglass". It is on the side of Heskalifos Museum but what is she holding in her hands?

Answer: A torch of crystals

Mentioned in chapter 5 in "Shatterglass".

"At its peak a figure of Asaia Birdwinged, the Living Circle goddess of learning, faced east, massive wings outstretched. In both hands she grasped a torch. Its flame was made of crystals that flashed in sun and moonlight, spelled against damage from wind and lightning".
7. Which of the following does not apply to the trader god Bookkeeper?

Answer: She uses gold scales

This is taken from "Cold Fire" chapter 5.

Oti Bookkeeper is "'The Headwoman of the gods, just as Trader Koma is the Headman,' Daja explained. 'At least, they are to my people. In the beyond, after you die, Trader weighs your life in his gold scales, and Bookkeeper writes down what you owe."

Also on this page it mentions that Mila of the Grain is the goddess of the north and Hakkoi Smith the god of the south.
8. Briar spends quarantine at Urda's house. She is the goddess of bawdy houses, she is also the goddess of something else, what?

Answer: Midwives

Urda's house is the first place that is used a quarantine for the blue pox. This question comes from chapter 1 of "The Healing in the Vine".

"Briar thanked Urda, goddess of midwives and bawdy houses, because he would never have to spend time in her place". Which is ironic, because he spends many days there!
9. Which God does Evvy call upon to return her sight when she is blinded as she defends herself from the Vipers?

Answer: Kanzan

Evvy makes some heat and light up as she is fleeing from the Vipers. This is in Chapter 3 of "Street Magic".

"She rested her head on her knees, praying to Kanzan, goddess of healing, for her sight to return."

Yanna Healtouch is the goddess of healing in "Magic Steps" and Lark calls upon Yanna Pain-Taker, the goddess of medicine and healers in "Healing in the Vine".

Humm, bit of confusion there? Maybe it's just the different cultures' names for the same god.
10. What is Lakik's mercy, according to Briar?

Answer: No mercy at all

This is a sobering thought which is all too often seen in life.

This comes from chapter 6 of "Healing in the Vine".

"'This really, really reeks! Lakik's mercy to the blue pox and whatever sent it!' He ran upstairs with his shakkan, fighting the urge to cry like a baby. The problem was that he was already seeing Lakik's mercy, which was no mercy at all."
