1. A is for "Appointment with Death", and the victim was the unpopular Mrs Boynton. What was Mrs Boynton's profession?

Answer: A prison wardress

Mrs Boynton is holidaying in Jerusalem with her large family. Her stepchildren do not like her very much. Hercule Poirot is also holidaying in Jerusalem. Mrs Boynton died of digitalis poisoning.
2. B is for Bob, a dog who was the witness in "Dumb Witness". What sort of dog was he?

Answer: Fox Terrier

He is at first blamed for the death of his mistress, Emily Arundel. It is believed that Emily fell over Bob's ball, and fell down the stairs. However, she wrote to Poirot before her death - and this letter did not arrive until Emily was dead.
3. C is for "Cards on the Table". One of the victims was Mr Shaitana. He, rather stupidly, invites four detectives and four people who have murdered to a bridge party. Which detective did not attend?

Answer: Miss Jane Marple

Poirot, of course, is the other detective who attends the party. The four people are believed to have murdered and got away with it. Of course, somebody kills Mr Shiatana, right under Poirot's nose.
4. D is for "Death on the Nile". There were three murders on the Karnak; one of them was Linnet Doyle's maid, Louise Bourget. Where is Louise found dead?

Answer: Her cabin

This is a very well known Poirot novel. Poirot is travelling down the Nile, and murder isn't far behind. Colonel Race assists him.
5. E is for "Evil Under the Sun". The victim was Arlena Marshall, or Arlena Stewart, a famous actress. What is the name of the hotel where Poirot was staying?

Answer: The Jolly Roger

The Jolly Roger Hotel is in Devon. All the hotels have been mentioned in Christie books. Arlena was married to Captain Kenneth Marshall, but not very well liked. Even her stepdaughter, Linda, dislikes her. There are plenty of suspects when she is found strangled.
6. F is for "Five Little Pigs". The victim was Amyas Crale. What was his profession?

Answer: Painter

Amyas Crale was poisoned, and his wife was convicted. She later died in jail. Sixteen years later, Poirot is asked to clear Mrs Crale's name.
7. G is for Madame Giselle. She appeared in "Death in the Clouds". How did she die?

Answer: Poison dart

Madame Giselle was a moneylender and not popular. She was killed while flying from Paris to London. Poirot is on the same flight.
8. H is for "Hallowe'en Party" and one of the victims was Joyce Reynolds. Who assisted Poirot with this case?

Answer: Ariadne Oliver

Joyce was drowned at a Hallowe'en party, while bobbing for apples. Her brother also drowned, later. Ariadne Oliver, the mystery novelist never liked apples after this episode.
9. I is for the Inglethorp family. Mrs Emily Inglethorp was murdered - but in which book?

Answer: The Mysterious Affair at Styles

Mr Alfred Inglethorp murdered his wife, with the help of Evelyn Howard, who was Mr Inglethorp's cousin. This is Poirot's very first case. Captain Hastings - then plain Arthur Hastings - also makes his first appearance.
10. J is for Detective Inspector Japp. He is a Scotland Yard detective, who often asked for Poirot's help. What was his first name?

Answer: James

Japp appeared in a number of Poirot novels. In the ITV dramatisations of Poirot, Philip Jackson plays him. David Suchet plays Poirot while Hugh Fraser plays Captain Hastings.

Answer: Train

Ruth Kettering appeared in "The Mystery of the Blue Train". She was murdered for her rubies.

Answer: An overdose of veronal

Carlotta was a character actress, who took off famous people, on stage. There are three murders in the book. The book is also known as "Thirteen at Dinner".
13. M is for "Murder on the Orient Express" and the victim was Samuel Ratchett. How many times was he stabbed?

Answer: 12

This is another well-known Poirot novel. Samuel Ratchett wasn't his real name; he had once kidnapped a little girl. Poirot is travelling on the Orient Express - which is unusually full for the time of year - when it becomes snowbound. He is in the perfect position to solve the murder, as the murderer is still on board.
14. N is for Mrs Nicoletis, who appeared in "Hickory Dickory Dock". She died from an overdose of morphine. She ran a youth hostel, Who was the manager of it?

Answer: Mrs Hubbard

There have been items going missing from the youth hostel, and Mrs Hubbard - who is also the sister of Poirot's secretary, Miss Lemon - asks Poirot to investigate.

Answer: Finnish

Ariadne Oliver resembled Agatha Christie herself. She disliked her fictional detective, Sven Hjerson, just as Christie sometimes disliked Hercule Poirot.

Answer: Shot

Poirot and Hastings are holidaying in St. Loo, near Torquay. They meet Nick Buckley, who has had three very near escapes from death. However, it is Nick's cousin who is killed.

Answer: France

Mr Renauld was found dead on a golf course. Captain Arthur Hastings, who often assists Poirot, met his wife, Cinderella, in this book. They later go to run a ranch in Argentina.

Elinor is freed, when Poirot gets an expert, on roses, to give evidence at her trial.

All the villages have appeared in Christie novels. This is a story set shortly after World War Two.

Poirot investigates the theft of the jewels, and also various deaths, which occur at Meadowbank School.

Louise Leidner is murdered, while she is on an archaeological dig. Nurse Amy Leatheran was caring for her, as Louise believed someone was going to kill her. Luckily, Poirot is in the area, and investigates.

Answer: The Clocks

Sheila was a typist, and was asked to come to the house of a blind woman. There are various clocks inside the house, all set at the same time.
23. X is for "Hercule Poirot's Christmas". Simeon Lee is the victim, and there were lots of people who wanted to kill him. What sort of jewels did he have hidden?

Answer: Diamonds

Simeon is murdered. He had lots of children - legitimate and illegitimate. Poirot is staying in the area so assists in solving the case.
24. Y is for Li Chang Yen, a member of "The Big Four". What number did he have?

Answer: One

Poirot and Hastings manage to defeat the criminal gang, before Hastings returns to Argentina, to his wife.
