Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the story 'A Good Run', what was Thessily's favorite weapon?

Answer: labrys

A labrys is a weapon with one end a wooden stake and the other an ax head.
"This is her favorite weapon, the one she has used again and again for almost eighteen years."
2. In the story 'White Doe', what did the Croatoan Indians call the vampires?

Answer: Night Walkers

Manteo, a Croatoan himself, told John White of the vampires on their land:
"'We call them the Night Walkers,' said Manteo. 'They are those who refuse to stay buried ...'"
3. In the story 'die Blutgrafin', what was the old Hungarian word for 'watcher'?

Answer: vigyázni

Vigyázni means 'guard' in Ildikó's native Hungarian language, which was the closest word to 'watcher' in the 1600s. Betegápoló means 'guard' in the current Hungarian language, along with virrasztó and ügyeletes meaning 'watcher'.
4. In 'Unholy Madness', what did Edmund tell Marie-Christine her feelings toward Mathilde were becoming like?

Answer: motherly

"He [Edmund] folded his arms across his chest and gave her a hard look. 'It's that little girl, isn't it? Taking her in. You've become ... motherly or some such thing.'"
5. In 'Mornglom Dreaming', what did the people of Pike Country have to do to get rid of Asa Peavey's spirit?

Answer: forgive him

Asa Peavey's spirit possessed a Rashka demon, but after Mollie killed the corporeal form of the demon, Peavey's spirit still haunted. So in order to get rid of the spirit, everyone who knew Peavey had to forgive him for being such a humbug while he was alive.
6. In 'Silent Screams', who was it that sired Britta the Vampire Slayer?

Answer: Erich Sahr

"He [Sahr] blew a smoke ring into the still air in the mausoleum. 'It is a very difficult thing to turn a Slayer, you know.'"

This was obviously referring to Sahr turning Britta (the Slayer) into a vampire.
7. In 'And White Splits the Night', what society did the vampires that attacked the Hickory Street Baptist Church belong to?

Answer: Ku Klux Klan

"She [Asha, the Slayer] had passed this same spot hundreds of times since then, but it hadn't been until this afternoon's nap that she had finally made the connection between the white-costumed figures and the Ku Klux Klan. Now she would not be so timid."
Asha felt she could defeat the KKK because the members were vampires, which happens to be her specialty.
8. In 'die Blutgrafin', what did Countess Bathory use to kill Ildikó?

Answer: Iron Maiden

An Iron Maiden is a cabinet big enough for a person to fit into, with spikes or any other sharp objects piercing into the victim's flesh, causing them to die of shock or blood loss; whichever happens to come first.
9. In which of these stories was the Slayer NOT orphaned?

Answer: Silent Screams

In 'Silent Screams', Britta still lived with her family consisting of her mom, dad, and five siblings. Her watcher, Friedrich, lived with the family in the guest house.
10. Which of the following stories had no vampires involved?

Answer: Mornglom Dreaming

In 'Mornglom Dreaming', Mollie fights the Rashka demon possessed with Asa Peavey's spirit, but does not fight or make contact with any vampires.
