Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The heroine of this novel is a Scottish heiress in need of a husband to protect her fortune... And maybe her life. What is this lady's name?

Answer: Roslynn Chadwick

Lasy Roslynn Chadwick is on the run from her cousin Geordie, who thinks her newly inherited fortune should have been his. Nettie MacDonald is Roslynn's maid. Kimberly Richards and Nessa MacGregor are characters from another Johanna Lindsey novel with Scottish characters, "Love Me Forever" (not a part of the Malory series).
2. Sir Anthony Malory's first glimpse of Roslynn was in Hyde Park. True or false?

Answer: False

Hyde Park was the second meeting between the two. The first meeting was at the Crandal's ball. Tony (as he's known to his "intimates") was in the garden to watch over his niece who was attending the ball. Not wanting to actually make an appearance himself, he stayed out of sight on a garden bench. Roslynn, taking a break from the ball, came outside for a breath of fresh air.

She saw only the garden bench and ran towards it, not knowing it was already occupied. What followed was a very interesting conversation that ended with Tony determined to win her over.
3. At a house party hosted by Lady Regina Eden, Tony's niece, where did Roslynn and Tony share their first kiss?

Answer: The conservatory

As a form of blackmail, Tony convinced her that if she didn't come with him to the conservatory, he'd kiss her in the ballroom in front of half the town, thereby ruining her reputation. She agreed and even enjoyed the kiss, until they were interrupted by his brother, James, to let them know Roslynn was missed.
4. How was Tony able to get back in Roslynn's good graces after the conservatory incident?

Answer: He promised to help her find a husband

Roslynn had a list of suitors that she wanted to get to know more thoroughly in order to make her decision as to who to marry. Tony promised to dig up the dirt for her. Why? His reasoning was, the sooner she was married, the sooner she'd be his mistress.
5. Geordie managed to kidnap Roslynn right out of the house. How did he do it so successfully?

Answer: He had her drugged

Geordie hired a maid to take the place of Roslynn's "sick" maid; he actually knocked the maid out with a blow to the head, preventing her from showing up to work. When Roslynn asked for a cup of warm milk, Geordie's hired maid drugged it. When Roslynn was knocked out, the maid let in some of Geordie's men to carry her off into the night.
6. Roslynn escaped Geordie's clutches by bribing her guard with the only thing of value she had: a diamond brooch.

Answer: False

Roslynn actually escaped by jumping out the window into a wagon filled with hay. Quite a feat when you know she was two stories high, wearing only a nightgown (not even any shoes!) and would have ended up splattered on a cobblestone street if she had missed. But she was a little desperate, being trapped in a room by her greedy cousin who had gone to look for a parson to marry them.
7. Which of the following is not one of Roslynn's "possibles", as she calls the list of eligible bachelors she'd gathered to consider marrying?

Answer: Lord Jonathon Murphy

The remaining three, along with the Earl of Dunstanton and a man only refered to as Savage were the list of "possibles" Roslynn had narrowed it down to.
8. Tony had to lie or exaggerate about all but one of her "possibles" to make her think they were unsuitable for marriage. Which one was he telling the truth about?

Answer: David Fleming

The truth about Fleming was that he prefered lords to ladies. He lied outright when he told her Lord Warton was in love with his sister, the Earl had just announced his engagement, and that Savage was a sadist who tortured women. As for Sir Artemus, Tony didn't lie when he said he had a gambling problem, but exaggerated when he said that it would make her bankrupt.
9. Which of the following was not a stipulation Roslynn wanted Tony to agree to before she married him?

Answer: She wanted a marriage in name only

Roslynn wanted children, ideally three, so she couldn't very well have a marriage in name only. Her grandfather also drew up a marriage contract that her future husband had to sign. It gave Roslynn control over her money. As for his mistresses, Roslynn came up with that stipulation to protect herself emotionally when he strayed (which she considered a guarantee). Tony agreed only to get her to marry him.

He had no intention of keeping any mistresses when all he wanted was her. (Mushy, I know.)
10. Tony and Roslynn had an eventful ride back to London on their wedding night. Which of the following did not happen?

Answer: Anthony confessed his lies to her

On the ride home, Roslynn was napping. A highwayman waylaid them and tried to rob them, but Tony effectively thwarted him. Roslynn, concerned over his well-being, was yelling at him for being a hero and Tony kissed her to make her calm down. Tony didn't confess his lies about her "possibles" until later that night.
11. No one witnessed Tony carrying Rosslyn over the threshold. True or false?

Answer: False

Besides Dobson, Tony's butler who opened the door for them, James Malory, Tony's brother, was home and stepped out in the hall in time to see Tony carry her up the stairs. James, who couldn't believe his brother was married, was rendered speechless, a very rare occurence.
12. When Tony came home from searching for her cousin, there were two things that had convinced Roslynn he had cheated on her. What were they?

Answer: He smelled of cheap perfume and had a blonde hair stuck to his coat

Tony had been looking for Geordie when a tavern waitress plopped down on his lap, uninvited. Though he got rid of her quickly, she left behind the scent of her perfume and a long, brittle blonde hair stuck to his coat. This evidence of his "cheating" had Tony and Roslynn at odds for a long time.
13. Before he left, James left a note to tell Roslynn that Anthony didn't cheat on her with the waitress. Because of that note, Roslynn realized what a fool she was and asked Tony's forgiveness for not trusting him. True or False?

Answer: False

Roslynn had decided to forgive Tony for "cheating" on her before she read the note. She realized she was wrong to have put "limitations on their marriage" and she wanted a new beginning. She told Tony this, but Tony was angry, thinking she had changed her mind because of James' note. Once he found out she hadn't seen it, the two were able to forgive each other and realized how much they loved one another.
14. Was Roslynn pregnant before the end of this book?

Answer: Yes

Roslynn got pregnant before they had solved their problems and it caused another rift between the two of them. Roslynn's stipulations had them only sharing a bed until she knew she was with child. By the time she did get pregnant, neither wanted to be in separate beds but had too much pride to say otherwise.
15. "Tender Rebel" started the story for the next Malory novel. Which one?

Answer: "Gentle Rogue"

At the end of "Tender Rebel", James finds out that his cabin boy is the woman (dressed like a boy) he met while helping Tony search for Geordie... A woman he had searched for again and again in the weeks to come. Needless to say, he's very eager for his upcoming voyage. "Love Only Once" is Regina Ashton's story (a Malory niece), "The Magic of You" is Amy Malory's story and "Say You Love Me" is Derek Malory's story.
