Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How did Haku die in the Land of Waves arc?

Answer: Kakashi Hatake shoved a Chidori through his chest.

Kakashi attacked Zabuza with a Lightning Cutter while his dog summons held Zabuza down, but Haku jumped in front of Zabuza and intercepted the attack, at the cost of his own life. Zabuza tried to cut through Haku's body to get to Kakashi, but Kakashi attacked him and stabbed him in the arm. Gato, Zabuza's boss, later arrived and mocked Haku's body. Naruto told Zabuza in no uncertain terms that Haku was more than a tool, and that he had willingly given his life to protect Zabuza. Naruto's words hit home, and Zabuza was so enraged that he charged at Gato and decapitated him with a kunai held in his teeth, despite not being able to use his arms and being stabbed multiple times.

The dying Zabuza asked to be allowed to die next to Haku, so he could see his former servant's face for one last time.

The two were buried next to each other.
2. Which important figure of Konoha died trying to stop Orochimaru after the Chuunin Exams?

Answer: Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage

Orochimaru summoned the First and Second Hokages, using two Sound genin as sacrifices, but Sarutobi used the Dead Demon Consuming Seal to seal their souls within the belly of a shinigami. He tried to do the same to Orochimaru, but Orochimaru stabbed him with his sword, the Kusanagi.

Although Sarutobi did not manage to kill Orochimaru, he was able to partially seal Orochimaru's soul, which cost Orochimaru the use of his arms. His physical arms later began to rot and he essentially depended on Kabuto for support until he was able to find a new host body.

As the Dead Demon Consuming Seal kills both the user and the victim, the combination of using that technique and being stabbed by Orochimaru killed Sarutobi.
3. Which of the Rookie 9 was the first to kill his enemy during the failed mission to retrieve Sasuke?

Answer: Chouji Akimichi

Chouji, Neji, Shikamaru, Kiba and Naruto all went on a mission to retrieve Sasuke, led by Shikamaru. Sasuke was being carried in a barrel by a group of teenage Sound shinobi known as the Sound Five, all of whom had Curse Seals like Sasuke's. Jirobo, an Earth user, trapped the five boys in a mound of earth, though thry were able to break out, and Chouji volunteered to stay behind and fight him. Though he used the Akimichi clan's green and yellow soldier pills to increase his size and strength, Chouji was no match for Jirobo's Curse Seal. Jirobo taunted Chouji, claiming his friends didn't care for him.

As a last resort, Chouji took the red pill, which consumed a massive amount of chakra and caused his weight to drop dramatically. It also increased his strength, and he killed Jirobo with a single punch. Chouji came close to dying himself, but was healed by Tsunade.
4. Akatsuki's goal was to collect the nine Tailed Beasts and use them to power the Ten Tails. Which Jinchuriki had their Tailed Beast removed and died as a result, only to be resurrected later?

Answer: Gaara

Akatsuki had already captured and killed several Jinchuriki - people with Tailed Beasts living inside them - and captured their Tailed Beasts. As the host of the Nine-Tailed Fox, Naruto was Akatsuki's number one target. Sasori, a former Sand ninja, and his partner Deidara invaded Sunagakure, knocked Gaara out with an explosion and carried him away. Kankuro, Gaara's older brother, tried to give chase, but was poisoned by Sasori and left to die, though Sakura later saved him.

The One-Tailed Tanuki was extracted from Gaara, killing him. Chiyo, a Suna elder and Sasori's grandmother, brought Gaara back to life (with Naruto's help) by giving him her own life force.

She had previously done the same for Sakura, but survived as Sakura was still alive at the time.
5. The Akatsuki member Hidan killed Asuma Sarutobi, one of the jounin senseis, when Asuma's group ran into him and his partner Kakuzu. Who were Asuma's three students?

Answer: Shikamaru Nara, Chouji Akimichi and Ino Yamanaka

Asuma was the son of the Third Hokage and the sensei of team 10, which contained Ino, Shikamaru and Chouji. Hidan and Kakuzu had massacred a monastery where one of the monks, Chiriku, also happened to be a friend of Asuma. Groups of Konoha shinobi were sent out to find the pair, and Asuma's group ran into them.

Although Asuma attacked Hidan with fire, Hidan survived as his Jashinist practices had made him immortal, and as he had cut Asuma's cheek with his scythe, he was able to use Asuma's blood in a ritual which linked their bodies. By stabbing himself in the heart, Hidan killed Asuma by proxy. Chouji and Ino arrived with a backup squad just in time to say their last goodbyes to Asuma as he died.

In revenge, Team 10 - with Kakashi's help - tracked Hidan and Kakuzu down, and Shikamaru used his shadow to force Hidan to follow him to the Nara clan's deer sanctuary, into a trap which Shikamaru had prepared.

He covered Hidan in explosive tags and used one of Asuma's cigarettes to ignite the tags, blowing Hidan to pieces and burying him alive.
6. Sasuke wished to grow stronger in order to kill his older brother, Itachi, who massacred their clan when Sasuke was a child. Sasuke finally got his wish, but what shocking revelation did he later find out about Itachi?

Answer: Konoha higher-ups had ordered Itachi to massacre the Uchiha clan.

Itachi was terminally ill, and died of exhaustion after a long battle with his younger brother, where both of them used their Mangekyou Sharingan techniques. Sasuke passed out, and woke up to find himself in a room with Tobi, who told him about the history of Konoha and the Uchiha clan, and how they were blamed for the Nine-Tailed Fox attacking the village.

He revealed that Itachi had been ordered by the village elders to kill the entire Uchiha clan, as they were plotting a coup. Tobi, pretending to be Madara Uchiha, had teamed up with Itachi and helped him with the massacre, on condition that he left Konoha alone. Sasuke did not take the news well, and decided to destroy Konoha in revenge, although Pein got there first.
7. Which member of Akatsuki killed Jiraiya by impaling him with black rods?

Answer: Pain

Akatsuki were founded by a group of orphans from Amegakure: Yahiko, Nagato - also known as Pain - and Konan. Nagato had a magical eye, the Rinnegan, which enabled him to remotely control six different bodies, or Paths of Pain, each with different powers and named after a Buddhist concept. One of the bodies, the Deva Path, was Yahiko, who had committed suicide in order to protect Konan and Nagato from Hanzo, Amegakure's leader. Jiraiya had known and trained all three orphans when they were children.

Jiraiya discovered where Akatsuki's leader was based and went off on his own to find the leader, despite Tsunade's worries. He infiltrated Amegakure. He discovered that the Akatsuki leader and his blue-haired female sidekick were Yahiko and Konan grown up. Though he killed three Paths of Pain and managed to capture the Animal Path - which he sent back to Konoha - the Naraka Path resurrected them, and the other five Paths impaled Jiraiya with chakra receivers and crushed his throat. Jiraiya managed to write a coded message on the back of one of his toad summons before falling into the sea and dying.
8. Did Team Taka manage to kill Killer B?

Answer: No

Team Taka - a team Sasuke had assembled from orphans experimented on by Orochimaru - were assigned to capture the Jinchuriki of the Eight-Tailed Ox. Killer B, the Jinchuriki in question, fought all three of them and nearly defeated them, but Sasuke managed to incapacitate him with Amaterasu. Taka brought Killer B back to Akatsuki's base and began the extraction process, only to discover that they had brought back a tentacle from the beast instead. Sasuke had cut off one of the beast's tentacles and Killer B switched places with the tentacle, which acted as a decoy.

He hid until Taka had gone, and then left his home village of Kumogakure as he was tired of being cooped up there.
9. Kisame Hoshigaki was one of the final Akatsuki members to die. Who killed him?

Answer: He committed suicide

Kisame and Gai had had a long-standing rivalry, mainly on Kisame's side, and the two were reunited while Naruto was training. Kisame had hidden inside his sword, Samehada, which Killer B had stolen after defeating him in a fight. B and Naruto were both sent off to the Island Turtle for training, and to keep them away from Akatsuki. Naruto sensed Kisame's presence, and Kisame tried to escape, but Gai chased him down. Kisame sicced more sharks on him, but Gai overcame him by opening the Seventh Gate and using the Daytime Tiger. Yamato trapped Kisame in wooden stocks while Aoba Yamashiro tried to probe his mind for information, but Kisame bit off his own tongue to prevent himself from speaking.

He surrounded himself with water and summoned three sharks, which ate him alive.
10. During the Fourth Ninja War, thousands of people lost their lives, including several named characters. Which of these characters survived?

Answer: Chouza Akimichi

Although Chouza Akimichi was the only member of the Ino-Shika-Chou trio (aka Team 10's dads) on the battlefield, he ended up being the sole survivor of the team when Inoichi and Shikaku, both of whom were at the Nnija Alliance headquarters in Kumogakure, were killed by a Tailed Beast Ball. Knowing the end was near, Shikaku used his final moments to telepathically communicate a battle strategy to the alliance with Inoichi's help. Both men also said one last goodbye to their children before dying.

Neji died protecting both Naruto and Hinata from flying wooden spikes fired by the Ten-Tailed Beast. Members of the Hyuuga clan were trying to knock the spikes out of the way with their clan techniques, but the spikes were too numerous. Hinata tried to protect Naruto, and Neji jumped in front of her. One of the spikes impaled Neji, and although Naruto called for medics, it was too late and Neji died.
