Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How did Roland's mother, the great Dowager Queen of Delain, die?

Answer: Choked to death

She put a slice of lemon in her mouth to soothe a sore throat, when the court juggler accidentally dropped a glass ball he was juggling, causing her to gasp. The lemon slice went down her throat and choked her very quickly. The juggler was beheaded.
2. How old was Sasha when she married Roland?

Answer: 17

Roland was 50. The kingdom was getting nervous because the king was so old and had no heirs. Roland chose Sasha out of six possible wives because she seemed the quietest and the least likely to scare him. Roland was not very comfortable with women, and had no desire to marry. He did end up loving Sasha, as did everyone else in the kingdom. Except Flagg...
3. What did Thomas make for his father that Roland made fun of?

Answer: A wooden sailboat

Thomas remembered going sailing with his father when he was younger, with just the two of them, when a carp came up out of the water and swallowed the boat. Roland laughed like a child and hugged Thomas. Thomas thought if he made his father a boat with his own two hands, Roland might take him out again sometime. Unfortunately for Thomas, his older brother Peter had done extremely well on the archery range that day, and Thomas was forced to listen to Roland go on about how great Peter was.

When Thomas finally gave Roland the boat, Roland said very little about it, then went on to tell how great Peter was.

When Thomas left, he overheard his father saying "Looks a little like a dog turd with a handkerchief sticking out of it." He didn't hear Roland thinking "And like something I would have made when I was his age." Poor Thomas.
4. The midwife who delivered Peter and Thomas killed Sasha because she owed a favour to Flagg. Flagg cured her son of a terrible disease. What was the name of this disease?

Answer: Shaking Disease

The midwife, Anna Crookbrows, made a small cut while delivering Thomas, and Sasha bled to death. Her twenty year old son contracted the Shaking Disease while Roland was still a bachelor. Flagg's price for curing him was a favour at some time in the future. When Sasha became too much of an interference to Flagg's plans, he called in the favour.
5. What was Flagg's name when he was King's Lord High Executioner?

Answer: Bill Hinch

Flagg had been to Delain many times before, in different guises and under different names each time. 250 years before his visit as Flagg, he was known as Bill Hinch, and even during this visit, parents still use Bill Hinch as a threat to naughty children. "If you don't shut up that squalling, I reckon Bill Hinch will come and take you away!"
6. What was the name of the dragon whose eye is looked through?

Answer: Niner

Niner was so named because he had nine chambers in his heart.
7. What was the last word spoken by Roland before he died?

Answer: Dragon

Roland was alive for a while after he said this, but that was the last word he spoke. Flagg poisoned Roland with Dragon Sand which caused Roland to burn up from the inside. Toward the end, Roland's servants were pouring water over him to stop the bedclothes catching on fire, but the water instantly turned to steam. Finally, a green flame shot out of Roland's mouth, then he died.
8. What was the name of Peter's butler?

Answer: Brandon

Brandon became Peter's butler when Peter reached half-manhood. Dennis is Brandon's son, who would have become Peter's butler when Brandon was no longer able to perform his duties. Beson was the Chief Warder, and Ben was Peter's best friend.
9. When Frisky, Naomi's husky, was tracking Dennis, she 'saw' his scent as a colour. What colour was Dennis' scent?

Answer: Electric-blue

Frisky found Dennis' scent very easy to find, probably due to the fact that Dennis hadn't bathed for a few days.
10. What was the name of the arrow that Thomas fired into Flagg's eye?

Answer: Foe-Hammer

Foe-Hammer was considered to be the greatest arrow ever made. Its bolt was made from sandalwood, the feathers came from the wing of an Anduan peregrine, and its tip was made from steel. When Thomas fired it at Flagg, it passed through a locket that Peter was holding and embedded itself in Flagg's right eye.
