In "The Body In The Library" (1930) the body in question is not Ruby Keene, as is first thought, but is in fact Pamela Reeves who has been murdered in order to give the plotters of Ruby's death an apparent alibi. Pamela, who has been made up to look like Ruby, is murdered by Mark Gaskill who dumps the body in Basil Blake's house hoping to throw suspicion on him, but Blake in turn dumps the body in the library of Gossington Hall where it is discovered.

In "A Murder Is Announced" (1942) Rudi Scherz is shot by Charlotte Blacklock as he recognizes her posing as her sister Letitia, heiress to a large fortune.

In "They Do It With Mirrors" (1952) Lewis Serracold murders Christian Gulbrandsen in order to prevent him disclosing that Lewis has been embezzling from a charitable trust.

In "A Caribbean Mystery" (1964) hotelier Tim Kendal murders his guest Major Palgrave when he realizes that the Major knows he murdered his previous wife in a similar fashion to the one in which he intends to murder his present wife Molly.

In "At Bertram's Hotel" (1965) Elvira Blake shoots Michael Gorman in order to prevent him disclosing that he was married to Elvira's mother Bess and they never divorced. This would make Bess' subsequent marriage, and thus Elvira's substantial inheritence, invalid.

In "Nemesis" (1971) the dying Jason Rafiel commissions Miss Marple to investigate the murder of Verity Hunt which occurred some years ago and for which Jason's son Michael was the prime suspect. Miss Marple discovers that Veirty was murdered by her guardian Clotilde Bradbury-Scott to prevent Verity marrying Michael Rafiel. Clotilde then battered another local girl to death and identified her as Verity to cover her tracks.
10. Helen Halliday

In "Sleeping Murder" (1976), Gwenda Halliday has flashbacks from when she was a child about the murder of a woman who turns out to be her step-mother Helen. Helen was murdered by her brother Dr James Kennedy, who then convinced Helen's husband Kelvin that he had committed the murder and had him committed to a sanitorium.
