Rachel is "The Girl on the Train" and one of three narrators of the novel, which was written by Paula Hawkins and published in 2015. This thriller was an immediate best-seller and was translated into over a dozen languages.
2. "Bel Canto"

Answer: Unnamed Latin American country

Ann Patchett wrote "Bel Canto", which means "beautiful singing", in 2001. In this story, a group of terrorists hold hostage a group of people attending a private party that featured a famous opera singer. The country is never named, though Patchett revealed in interviews that she was inspired by the real-life 1996 Japanese embassy hostage crisis that took place in Lima, Peru.

6. "Water for Elephants"

"Gone Girl" is a thriller about Amy, a wife who abruptly disappears from her Missouri home which she shares with her husband, Nick. Although Amy's diary entries are set in New York, where the couple met and married, most of the action takes place around their not so happy home in North Carthage, Missouri.

"Cloud Atlas" follows multiple plot lines, each with its own setting and time period. They include the Chatham Islands off New Zealand; Bruges, Belgium; and a fictional city in California, among others. Published in 2004 and written by British author David Mitchell, "Cloud Atlas" was made into a film in 2012.
