1. What city is the start of the book set on?

Answer: London

London is a huge moving city (a traction city) with seven tiers, like a cake, each one becoming more posh as you move up. St Paul's Cathedral is at the very top.
2. What is the name of the person whom Tom fancies?

Answer: Katherine Valentine

Katherine Valentine is the daughter of Tom's hero, Thaddeus Valentine. He meets her in London's gut, the place where its prey is disassembled, whilst on Gut Duty after hitting a higher ranking historian.
3. Who does Tom hit?

Answer: Herbert Melliphant

Tom smacks Melliphant before he realised he was doing it; Melliphant was taunting him about the 'Big Tilt', the reason Tom had no parents. Tom's Mum and Dad lived on tier four, and part of the tier above them fell down, crushing them and their house.
4. What type of town is the town that London is chasing at the start of the book?

Answer: Mining

This is the first proper town London has chased for ages, and its prey was a small mining town.
5. What was the name of the town that London was chasing at the start of the book?

Answer: Salthook

This little town is running away from London at 80mph, and yet London still catches it.
6. What type of animal is Katherine's pet?

Answer: A wolf

Her Dad bought this pet back from an expedition to America. He killed the mother, but couldn't bring himself to kill its cub.
7. What is the name of Katherine's pet?

Answer: Dog

The wolf is called Dog...
8. What is the name of Thaddeus Valentine's airship?

Answer: The 13th Floor Elevator

Tom ends up shooting this ship down, at the end of the book, with rockets, killing two men inside it.

Tom feels a hand shove him. It is not till he lands that he realises that Valentine pushed him.
