Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. An elderly lady who likes to knit and who once described herself as "Nemesis"; after Mr Rafiel dies, his lawyers contact her regarding Mr Rafiel's hope that she will assume the role of Nemesis once again.

Answer: Miss Jane Marple

After Jason Rafiel dies, his lawyers contact Miss Marple regarding a bequest of 20,000 pounds if she will undertake an investigation on his behalf. Mr Rafiel has organised for Miss Marple to take a bus tour of famous British houses and gardens to facilitate this but provides her with absolutely no information regarding his mysterious request.
2. A beautiful young girl, both in nature and in appearance; she was engaged to Michael Rafiel but died before the marriage could take place.

Answer: Verity Hunt

Archdeacon Brabazon told Miss Marple that Verity was a beautiful girl - "beautiful in mind, in heart, as well as in appearance". Verity became a ward of Clotilde Bradbury-Scott, who had been a close friend of Verity's mother, after her parents were killed in a plane crash. Verity became engaged to Michael Rafiel, against the wishes of her guardian.
3. A handsome ne'er-do-well and petty criminal, he is accused and incarcerated for a crime he did not commit.

Answer: Michael Rafiel

Michael Rafiel was the son of Jason Rafiel. He was convicted of the murder of his fiancee, Verity Hunt. Jason Rafiel commissioned Miss Marple to find out the truth and "serve the cause of justice".
4. A retired headmistress of a very prestigious school; she is a passenger on the same bus trip as Miss Marple and dies when she is struck by a falling rock.

Answer: Miss Elizabeth Temple

Miss Elizabeth Temple knew Verity Hunt as Verity had been a student at her school, Fallowfield. Miss Temple told Miss Marple that Verity died because of "love" and said love was "one of the most frightening words there is in the world".
5. A psychiatrist who assessed Michael Rafiel and believed he was not capable of committing murder; he was also a passenger on Miss Marple's bus tour.

Answer: Professor Wanstead

Professor Wanstead was a fellow passenger on the bus tour; his presence was organised by Jason Rafiel to protect Miss Marple. In his capacity as a confidential advisor to the Home Office, Professor Wanstead assessed Michael Rafiel. He agreed with the Governor of the prison that Michael was likely innocent of the murder of Verity Hunt.
6. A clergyman who visits Miss Marple; he tells her that, although he had some reservations, he believed Verity and Michael were truly in love and therefore he had agreed to conduct the marriage ceremony in secret.

Answer: Archdeacon Brabazon

Archdeacon Brabazon was an old friend of Elizabeth Temple's. He went to the hotel to visit Miss Marple after he learned that Elizabeth Temple had sent for Miss Marple shortly before she died. He told Miss Marple that he had attempted to dissuade Verity from marrying Michael but Verity told him she was aware of Michael's history: "I know what Mike is like. I know he'll probably always be like it, but I love him. I may be able to help him and I may not.

But I'll take that risk".
7. A young woman who was murdered and deliberately mis-identified as Verity Hunt.

Answer: Nora Broad

Nora Broad had a reputation as being a "great one for going with the boys", so when she disappeared, it was assumed she had run away with someone. Miss Marple described her as a "sly, sexy little village girl". Clotilde Bradbury-Scott was not so kind, describing her as "a silly little tramp" and "an adolescent tart".
8. A spinster and one of three sisters; she became Verity's guardian after Verity's parents died.

Answer: Clotilde Bradbury-Scott

The Bradbury-Scott's housemaid told Miss Marple that Clotilde went to university, was very "brainy" and spoke three languages. She also told Miss Marple that Clotilde was a good friend of Verity's mother and after Verity's parents died in a plane crash, Clotilde became her guardian and treated her as a daughter.
9. A widow and one of three sisters; she was contacted by Jason Rafiel and asked to invite Miss Marple to stay with her for a couple of days during the bus tour.

Answer: Lavinia Glynne

Lavinia Glynne, Clotilde and Anthea Bradbury-Scott are sisters. Lavinia was the only one who married. She came to live with her sisters after her husband's death in a house they inherited from their uncle. Lavinia is described as "plain but pleasant looking" and "an extremely nice, wholesome" woman.
10. A very wealthy man who dies and leaves a posthumous request to Miss Marple to solve a mystery on his behalf but he leaves her absolutely no clues to work with.

Answer: Jason Rafiel

Miss Marple met Jason Rafiel in the novel "A Caribbean Mystery". In that story, Miss Marple described herself as "Nemesis" and enlisted Mr Rafiel's help to solve two murders at the Golden Palms Hotel and prevent an additional murder. In "Nemesis", Jason Rafiel makes a posthumous request for Miss Marple to assume the role of Nemesis once again when Jason's son, Michael, is imprisoned for murder.
